Headlight question
Headlight question
Hey guys,
I have a quick question regarding the headlights on a 08. If I leave the headlight switch on, kill the engine and remove the key, would the headlights turn off automatically over time?
I tried it for a couple mins but they were still on and didn't have the patience to stick around any longer.
Thanks.

Do you have what's called the "light comfort package"? I have it on my 08 Turbo and the lights turn on and off automatically based on exterior lighting.
If you don't have it, you have to turn it on/off yourself. My girlfriend's car (Audi) is the same, you manually turn on and off the lights.
So is my friend's car (VW), manual on/off.

I heard that it is possible to enable daytime running lights, in this case your lights will go on and off with you engine and you wont have to worry about turning them on and off manually.
im not help by mine (06) has a parking, on/off, "AUTO". If you leave it in auto they turn on and off based on the light.. like when i pull in the garage they come on..

Yes, even if you dont have an option. It is like a workaround. I was told there is some kind of relay that needs to be installed. Now days all cars have daytime running lights, it's just on some you need to take an extra effort to enable them.
Apparently you don't even need a relay. All you need is to reprogram your computer in your car. Your dealer can do it for you. Takes 5 min. If you do it together with service they wont charge you, otherwise it will be somewhere around $60-$80.
Anyone have more info on this or has done it themselves? I was just about to write a separate post on this topic so I'm glad I did a search first.
I just picked up the CTT last night and as most people here I am literally in awe of its performance. The thing gets up to speed and does 30-80 blasts like something from a different time. Porsche really outdid themselves with the performance on this truck. It is truly astounding. And I have driven plenty of 996/997 TTs, Supercharged Corvettes, etc...but for a 6000 lb truck it is incredible.
On to the light question...I think I literally have every available option - keyless entry, folding mirrors, memory, rain sensing wipers, etc., etc... but for the life of me I can not understand why this 2004 CTT does not have automatic headlights? I've had this feature in ALL my cars for almost 10 yrs now (even cheap american cars/trucks) so I didn't even think to ask if the CTT had the feature. I mean how ridiculous is it that i can check the tire pressure in each tire or set speed limits or change how the doors lock/unlock - BUT I have to reach over and turn on and off the lights 2x per day every day when I drive???
Can someone please post exactly what the modification is that you can tell your dealer to re-program and what happens then? Is it like then the lights are always on when you are driving or does it have the ability to just function like you have the automatic headlights when in "off or on" mode?
Yeah, this is very upsetting.. As you said you would think that such a simple feature would be standard on a 70k+ car..
Anyways, what I was referring is what's called DRL (daytime running lights). By enabling DRL your head lights will be on at all times when your vehicles engine is working. This is a work around but also give you limitation.. For example, if are pulling into a residential area late at night, you sometimes want to turn your head light off and just keep your fogs on so it does not disturb people, in that case you can't turn your head light untill you turn your engine off. So I decided not to enable my DRL for now. I will see how it goes. I'm more worried about my wife not to turning then on when it gets dark!

So I'm interested in the work around. Not being able to fully turn them off doesn't bother me much. Will use a different car for stealth missions...
Thanks for the add'l info. I'm not overly worried about having them on all the time. I just can't stand the fact that as I'm driving down the highway at dusk (5-7pm) and all the other $15k cars have their lights automatically turn on I have to reach over and manually turn mine on and then if I forget when getting out of the truck I get that annoying beeping noise until I reach over again and turn them off. It seems ridiculous to complain about that but I would trade just about any other automatic gizmo in the car for the automatic headlights since I use them literally every day.

All you need to do is go to your local dealer and ask them to enable your daytime running lights. If you are doing a service at the same time they should make this change for you at no extra charge.
