Rear Seat lockdown..??

Hey Guys,
I folded my rear seats down for the first time yesterday, first the passenger side and then the driver side. The passenger side is the larger side. Well, the middle seat belt ratchet is holding the seat belt tight and I cannot raise the seat! It is stuck in the down position.

Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts on its resolution??
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

canberk,
Thanks, but the belt is not twisted. It is straight. The racheting mechanism will not release it to move the seat to an upright position.
Any other thoughts?

I was able to access the bolt that attaches the seat belt to the frame and take it out. Very frustrating...

The problem is with the missing/broken cosmetic plastic trim that covers the area where the seat belt enters the top of the seat or the limiting button is missing from seat belt itself.

They are designed to limit the amount the seat belt can retract into the seat when folded down which causes the recoil mechanism to lock. The replacement parts for the trim isn't expensive and only takes seconds to install.

Same issue on my tDI V10 TT Touareg. Frustrating and senseless. Most shops will cut the belt and charge you to replace the belt and assy. Several hundred $$$. I first tried to remove the bolts holding the belt to the base, special bolt, special part required from auto store. Of course it stripped, they frequently do, so rather than cutting the belt, I cut the rows of stitching along the bottom, and the belt came free allowing me to pull the seat up. The part is ~$5, and it happens frequently, very. So simple and avoidable.

Just a suggestion … I fold my seat down all the time. You might be pulling the release strap up, try pulling it straight out forward.

Go to clubtouareg.com There're a TON of threads, for years, and some very specific thoughts on remedy. Having gotten the tools and into it myself, it's simple, but physically challenging (those damn bolts that hold the belt down) and or financially costly...the dealer will simply cut the belt and charge $750+ to replace the assembly.

Check out the Club Touareg threads and you'll have enough info to be dangerous.

Cheers!

955-522-600-001-C and 955-522-661-000-C are the parts I replaced. I think the C is the colour code for black. Took 30 seconds to install but I'm sorry I don't remember the price but think it was expensive for two small pieces of plastic.
