I didn't know 5w-30 is approved engine oil for Cayenne.
it is approved, ask your dealership.

Porsche also recently approved Volverine brand motor oils

It would be interesting to see whether the different engine oil 5w-30 makes a difference or not.

The CTTS is a bear (a fast and strong one I know), it always needs oil. I am not sure why but that's how it is.

I also read in the manual that it needs a quart of 0W-40 Mobil 1 every few thousand miles.

I was told that the dealer's service dep. that it's normal and it in some cases it needs a quart every 1000 miles; depending on usage manner and frequency of usage.

Mostly it creeps into the cylinder in small amounts and gets burned off

Yes!!! the e60 M5 also has that "problem"... i believe the oil consumption becomes less after a while, doesn't? (or same?)

I think all the BMW M-cars have that feature. I kept a quart of TWS 10w60 in the trunk of my E39.

Of course, now I keep a quart of 0w40 in the CTT and 3 quarts of 20w50 in the 911 so not much has changed.

Just to be on the clear side, confirmed 5W-30 isn't approved by Porsche.

Yeah i can't believe either how much oil my 05 ctt burns. I feel like i drive a jalopy because i have to check the oil about everytime i fill the car up with gas. Its seems to take a quart about every 800 to 1000 miles. I mean i used to drive a 94 tt supra and even in its late days when it started to burn oil from the leaking valve stem seals it wouldn't use hardly any oil. I just expect more of a $100,000+ porsche car.
