Hello all,

i just want some opinions on why you would choose one over the other.

I'm trying to make a decison between an 07/08 bmw m5 vs an 06 cayenne turbo s.
no kids, like to cruise the canyons on week ends and occasional ski trips every now and then.

I understand this is a cayenne board and most opinions would be favoring the cayenne.

cheers,

Unless you need to tow or the offroad capability of the Cayenne, I'd get the E60 M5. Get a 2nd set of wheels with snows for the M5 for your occasional ski trips (or ride with a friend who has an SUV)

im not sure why you are considering the 2 cars together?
i could understand if it was between the M5 and the E55 or the cayenne and a merc ML

one is a sports saloon and the other is a sports SUV (4x4)

both offer performance/comfort/style, but present them in totally different ways.
to say one is better than the other would depend on factors like
will you be tracking the car?
will you be off roading
will you be carrying lots of luggage/loads
towing etc
initial cost etc.

your right its a cayenne board...ask the E60 forum and you will get a different view on things.

being a "badge snob" it would be the porsche every time, having owned a brabus merc, new E60, skyline, subaru, farrari. i would always go for a porsche....because its a real word super car....period

You are comparing salt with sugar.....better all depends on what the requirements are for the person buying.

Exactly, I was in the same boat before I purchased CS, have considered M5 but it didn't make sense for me to have 2 sedans, especially already have 5series (non-///M) on my driveway.

I think you should consider what you need first, sedan vs SUV prior to dig into the specific model.

Based on your needs, I would also say the M5. Although, overall, I personally prefer the Cayenne Turbo. The e60 M5 is an electrical nightmare waiting to happen IMO.

Be sure to drive the Cayenne Turbo before you buy - the test drive made my decision

I own both cars. The only major flaw with the E60 M5 is the transmission (SMG)--I HATE IT. It pales in comparison with the new DCT. Other than that, it's one of the best vehicles ever made, IMO. lol

My Wife drives the Cayenne Turbo S everyday. Seats our child perfectly along with friends, luggage, etc...while towing a couple of jet skis or snowmobiles at 90 mph up the canyon without breaking a sweat. It really is a blast to drive, yet it's docile enough for my Wife to run errands in. It's the car we take road trips in, go for drives in, and throw our groceries in while still getting one of the front parking spots when we valet it!

Good luck with your decision. You can't go wrong with either.

I also own both but the 09 turbo not 06

If you were in the market for an 08 or 09 turbo it would make the choice much more difficult.

otherwise the m5 is the choice. I have an 09 turbo and 07 m5. I prefer the turbo. But from what your looking for and vs 06 lack of luxuries vs the current I would choose the m5.

also everyone's input thus far should be considered as well. All point made are valid.

I have driven both cars, my preference is the CTTS, the M5's biggest downfall in my mind is that terrible SMG. It really feels like the car is getting rear ended every time you shift (aggressive driving of course). Even if your just cruising it feels like its never comfortable in whatever gear you choose. Aside from that, the M5 is terrible in the rain or snow. The one plus is that it is insanely powerfull. On the other hand, the CTTS is a great daily in that you have the power and the comfort. Also you can use it on your ski trips without worrying about getting stuck, etc. I think that if you drove a CTTS you will choose one as well.

I've owned it for six months, done a full track day with it, and drive it everyday to work.

How long would you say it takes to get to know it? lol

If I had to choose one. It would be the TTS. My father actually owns the TTS, and I've had extensive seat time in the M5 and at the end of the day, I would get the TTS. It can do everything the M5 can do plus more.
