3rd Party Warranties?

Is anyone running with a 3rd Party Warranty, or are we all naked (not covered) except for those with OPC Warranties?

i never took out a warranty when the OPC one expired, i think its something i should, but are they worth the paper there written on?

a friend had one once and had to comply with so much to keep it valid, do they pay out if it breaks? whats covered etc?
i might have a look into this.

thanks for putting a rocket up my ar*e.

I am trying to decide which warranty to get or to get one at all.

We have an 04 Range Rover HSE which we bought the Land Rover extended warranty for and I would say that it worked well not great but well. They covered most things that broke but some things like ball joints they wouldn't (called it a wear item). I would say we got close to what we paid for the warranty back and piece of mind that if something bad happened it would be covered.

I don't think Porsche offers an extended warranty (that I know of). So we are looking for an aftermarket one for our 06 Cayenne Turbo S.

We are down to two companies Mercury Insurance which is what my credit union suggests. A search online gives some mixed reviews. Anyone use these guys ?

or US Fidelis which seemed to get pretty good online reviews as well.

The key is making sure that there is not a cap on total or per visit charges. As these cars can easily have single visit charges of thousands of dollars.

Will let the group know what we choose. Sure would like to hear from some folks that currently have a warranty.

I, too, have looked into the 3rd party warranties. I've gotten quotes ranging from $6800 for 4 yrs and 50k more miles all the way to $2100 for 5 yrs and an extra 100k miles. Every single experience has been a pressure sale and they have never been able to answer specific questions of coverage. An article in the recent Car and Driver gives examples of warranties covering things like mechanical water pumps and then the customer getting denied coverage because their water pump was electric. It is all in the wording. One warranty also said that I had to change the oil every six months or 5k miles...even though Porsche says 1 yr or 20k miles in between oil changes. At over $200 per oil change that adds an extra $800 over the 4 years of the warranty.

In the end, a warranty for $6k does not seem worth it to me since there are very few repairs that cost that much. On the other hand, I just paid $2000 to have the little plastic coolant system hoses in the intake manifold replaced b/c they cracked and spilled an entire radiator's worth of fluid into the manifold and out the exhaust. The dealer had to take the entire top of the engine apart to replace these poorly designed pieces with the upgraded steel-braided pieces. IMHO, this should have been a recall item since they obviously upgraded the pieces and knew there was a problem. Oh well, still love my semi-dependable CTT.

That C&D article talked about the founder of the US Fidelis company and said that he came up with the idea for the company while serving time in jail. Pretty funny.

I just bought a 5 years easycare warranty for my club coupe. It was sold through my Porsche dealer so I have confident in it.

I have been wondering about this too. Since I ended up getting an '08 I've still got 20k miles and over 2.5 years to figure it out. Figuring out how to CPO it would be nice...

Make sure you research the company before you buy a warranty through them, there are plenty of scams out there.

That is the problem. There are so many different warranties available from lots of vendors (credit unions, aftermarket, the dealer). When they sell it to you they give you so little information that you have no idea of what your getting and who your buying it from, what it covers, etc....

In juding by your last post the founder of US Fidelis is a former convict so I would think that rules that one out.
My credit union suggests Mercury, anyone use them?

Am thinking about a 3,500 exclusionary coverage that will cover the car for another 3 years and 30k miles.

US Fidelis would cover an '06 with 55k miles for an additional 5 years and 100k miles for under $2k. Seemed a little too cheap ever if just for powertrain. I would want to talk to a local shop to see how readily different warranty companies paid claims.

Save your money, put the $4-6k in a CD, and let it ride. They are all so quick to take your money and it's so hard to get them to cover anything. After all they are a business. They find any reason to deny a claim, my last one said I had a aftermarket alarm therefore they wouldn't cover the motor to the convertible top?? Oh and then they went bankrupt before my warranty was up!

Am trying to find a dealer in Colorado that sells easy care. None of the Porsche dealers sell it.

i got a policy from warranty direct for my 2003 Chevy suburban in 05. i think it was $1200 for a extra 4 years and 50000 miles. in 08 the transmission go's to hell and the mas air flow sensor go's bad. Chevy dealer total $2480. warranty direct paid it over the phone with a credit card it cost me $100 deduct. now i know that a Chevy and a Porsche are to different autos. but you might give them a call. o they did ask for

I've had some friends who had them on other cars. They've never been worth it. My personal take is, if you can afford a car like a Cayenne, then you can afford some repairs after the warranty is up. Like someone suggested above, save the money and put it in a CD. You'll be WAY ahead and you won't have the hassle of trying to make a claim on something they are going to do their best to deny.

All that being said, when we bought ours used, we made sure we got it CPO'd.
