Looks like a good deal ....if it is a new vehicle (less than 20miles on the odometer)..and recent date of production ( 3-04 or later?)..and all TSBs are done!! Good luck.

If the '04 car is the color and equipped as you want otherwise I would go with the '05. At the end of the day the spread between the two (if equipped the same) may only be approx. 4K.

'04 vehicle has 34 miles; travel between the warehouse and dealership, so i am told. will check on the production date. what happened to production after 3-04?
is it typical not to have a spare? does changing the woofer size to accomodate a spare have much effect on the woofer performance? is there a way to get the wood kit at a better price than the dealer is offering (995)?
F1Drew: a bit confused by your response; are you saying go for the '05, only a 4k difference or get the '04 is i like the equipment pkge?
thx again, guys! can't wait to join the "owners circle".

With your discount on the '05 you'll be about 4K out of pocket over the '04. Regarding the wood kit yes, you can get these at a discount from other sources. However, if you’re buying a car from an authorized dealer I would negotiate harder and get everything through them.

bp7 - The price is excellent, absolute dealer cost! The production date makes no difference as there are a number of recalls and TSB's on the 04, depending on production date. As part of the deal, make the dealer have all the recalls and TSB's done before delivery. The recalls and TSB's will resolve most of the nit picks regarding the CS.

If you will email me, I will give you a web site where you can by Porsche accessories at cost plus 10%. bushtec@aol.com All the accessories can be added after the fact, even NAV if you are willing to pay for it. I bought my NAV for $2,000 (NIB) and it cost $500 to have the dealer install and reprogram.

thx very much for your responses. looks like i am going to go with the '04 since i regreted not acting quickly enough on a previous opportunity i had.
dealer is checking the mfg date but advised that all tsb work would be done prior to delivery. they have cay loaners which suprised me.
while it doesn't have every option i want i figure that if this is still my chosen vehicle 4 yrs from now i will get a few more options when i buy my next one; it is still a cay s underneath, right?
the same dealer sells the fx45 too - that has every option known to man but it didn't do for me what the cay did during test drives. so i am already reconciled to not getting every option but feel i want to focus on the core of what makes the cay a cay.

bp7; I'd be cautious about how much $$ I spend in adding options to the'04. In a NY second you'll be at the price of the '05!

Yes you might be right EXCEPT the 05 will be without MODS, so what he saves on the 04 he can put into MODS without feeling bad about doing so!

I hear your suggestions about going easy on the dealer options and agree. they do tend to run up the cost and for some options, their long-term value is dubious at best (i.e. nav; no resale vaule).
and some of the mods you guys have been installing look very appealing; rather put a few bucks towards those...

offroad911; I was assuming that both cars were equipped the same. And putting big $$ into the '04 really doesn't make sense. Its ALWAYS better to purchase the newest car your budget will allow. You can always add options/accessories later.

F1Drew - I would agree with your assumption, however I felt that bp7 was looking for value at purchase and intended to drive the truck. That being the case, he will realize more value for dollar spent with the 04 & large discount versus the 05 with a much smaller discount.

offroad;
you read that objective right as this truck will become a 2 1/2 miles each way commuting to a reserved parking space at the local train station.
all that will hold me back now is that timing is terrible, mid-December would be much better. wonder what experience has taught you guys about deals at year end? still wondering about the 04 w/tsb's done vs '05 for reliability
Thx

can you guys tell me about the woofer choices

the cay i am getting has no spare tire, just a woofer in the spare tire well. i was told i could get a spare which requires exchanging the woofer for a smaller one to make room for the spare. do you know what difference it makes in the audio by switching woofers?
thx
