Thumbs up Which to Buy for $50K- '09 V6 or '08 S or '06 TT ??

Will pull the trigger on a Pepper in November or December. Will be trading in an '02 996TT- need something larger and more versatile. The knee-jerk answer to my question would be "Buy the TT, you won't be satisfied w/ anything else." However, I have a few problems w/ the CTT:
- Price - Even Used
- Turbo Lag
- Physics
Price and Turbo lag are pretty obvious, Physics is a little more complicated. To me there's something a little absurd about putting 500+HP in a 5200 lb. truck in order to attempt to make it perform like a 911. The power is certainly fun, on occasion, but but the whole equation strikes me a pretty far over the top for use on a regular basis. I totally get it in my 996TT but that car is 2000lbs. lighter that the CTT, which brings us back to physics. I do LOVE the CTT front end, and I'm sure I could get pretty into the Air Suspension on the CTT. '06 CTT- 40kmi. $50K probably no CPO.

So onto the CS and V6. No question the CS is a great model- Plenty of power for it's size, real world gas mileage the same as V6, seemingly the best all around package. '08 CS- 25kmi.$50k remaining factory warranty.

Brand Freakin' New '09 V6- $10k Off Sticker- $50k- Same as the CS but has 290HP V6 vs. 385HP V8- 1.5 seconds slower 0-60. With sports cars 1.5 seconds is an eternity because THAT's WHAT SPORTS CARS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO- GO FAST!! Horsing a 5000+lbs. truck around will not only get you 9mpg. but eat tires every 8k miles. On the other hand- drive a V6 with almost 300 HP under the hood like an adult and you'll get 18mpg. and replace tires every 18k miles or more. Maybe I'm getting conservative in my old age, but in many ways the V6 is the OBVIOUS CHOICE!!

Clearly, I'm torn which one to drop the $50k on or I wouldn't have started this thread. I thought it was the most constructive to put a hard dollar allowance in place so as not get gross generalizations like: "Get the CS it's way better than the V6." or "Once you put your foot to the floor in the CTT you won't buy anything else."

New V6- 0mi. 4 Yr. Warranty vs, Used '08 CS- 25kmi. 2 Yr. Remaining Warranty vs. Used '06 CTT- 45kmi. No Warranty Makes this question MUCH harder to answer- don't you think???

you buy a Porsche for speed & fun, I own both Cayenne tt and 996 tt cab., I drive the Cayenne using the tip shift, very little lag, put in the sport mode and its a totally different automobile, I drive alot, I love the fun and flexibility the TT offers, v6 buy a volkswagon, driving the S hard is a light drive in a TT. You only live once.

sounds like you need a GTS...

seriously, can't answer your question without knowing what other cars you currently have. If you already have fast cars, then V6 is OK. If this is your only car, get a GTS or TT.

The GTS is interesting and there are some pretty attractive deals out there- but none in the $50k range. The only thing I don't like about the GTS is all, the scabbed-on body pieces. They should have chosen a different way of differentiating that model.

I have a 6spd manual GTS and love it. Don't see why you couldn't find one in your price range by Dec. I paid $63k for mine as a leftover 2008 in May. There should be GTS models down in the 50s later this year.

My vote is in for the TT. As said the lag is very minimal and with a flash these trucks are quite a lot of fun. If you are going to keep it very long the 'newness' of the brand new V6 will wear off quickly and if you're anything like me, you'll be left wanting for power. There are great deals out there on Turbos so that would be my first choice.

Regardless you'll be getting a great SUV, happy hunting!

Great point about the "Newness" wearing off. Three months later it's just another used car. But what about warranty on any used Pepper, particularly the TT?

I would rule out the V6 since its somewhat underpowered. It would be a tough choice for me between the 2008 CS or a 2006 CTT. I have a CTT and have driven the CS extensively as a loaner, and I think for most the CS is enough power for an SUV.

If I have only one car, I will choose the CTT. Since you have a 996TT as your fun car, I think a 2008 Cayenne S with warranty will complement it very nicely.

What hasn't been mentioned is how much optional equipment is standard in the TT. Even without the power, it is just a nicer place to be.

I would go with the CTT, The V6 is underpowered for me. I have supercharged 911,996 and a Cayenne Turbo. I enjoy driving both as much. Each have its own fun factors. Good luck with your decision.

As for absolute performance at the Porsche Driving School in Alabama, the pecking order was 911 C2, Cayenne TT, Cayenne S (they had no V6s). In the real world the TT drinks fuel, eats tires and I don't think can be CPO'd but it is more fun. But if you just want torque, air suspension and good fuel economy take a look at the VW Touareg V10 diesel, it will stay with the TT up to 80 mph and not be far behind at 100. A 2006 V10, loaded, with VW CPO, low miles and excellent condition is about $42k. (Capitol VW in San Jose, CA).

If max fun is the goal and price and cost of operation is not a factor then I would get the TT.
