TPMS & non std tires

It's been a week with my '06 TTS and what a blast - can't remember having this much fun in a long time!! Been reading the boards (and the manual) and really appreciate this community - have already learned a ton.

Anyway, just put on new tires 275/45/20 (Parada Spec-x) and there isn't an option for this size in the tire settings menu. Manual says to go to the dealer if your size isn't there. Has anyone dealt with this and have any thoughts besides following the directions to go see the dealer .

Separate but related, very cool that the speedo recalibrates to the GPS

Thank, russ

Russ,

Excellent post, Congrats after all this time. I too am enjoying my CTTS with 275/45/20s just installed.

Any updates?

I put about 20k on the tires and became aware that they were getting a little loud and the drive was less crisp. I had been thinking about replacing them for about a month when my wife hit a crater on I-95 in Connecticut blowing a sidewall on the right rear tire. She was lucky and had the sidewall plugged by a station on the side of the road. I replaced the one tire immediately for safety sake while investigating new tire options - the tire shop said there was a lot of tread left (I don't recall specifics) but I had already begun to notice the difference from new. Anyway, I looked at the new pirelli's N rated all seasons (verde scorpions) on tire rack but there weren't any reviews so I just re-ordered the Prada Spec-X's. They're getting installed on Monday & I'm looking forward to refreshed rubber! I likely won't let them go beyond 15k and hoping some reviews on the pirelli's are up by then.

Did you order 45s again?

How did you wind up fixing the TPMS and non-standard size issue?

I did order the 45's and they're still sitting in the garage waiting for me. I don't recall which size i went with but selected what seemed closest and have been winging it from there. a bit disappointing but like the way the tires fill the wheel well. I'm starting to see reviews coming up on the Pirelli Verde all season and they look like they're being well received (kinda wish now that I would've waited since my tires aren't installed yet). Anyway, the pirellis don't solve the TPMS problem but at least you can now get Porsche rated all-seasons. Good luck

I went with Vredestein SUVs in 275/45/20. They do ride better (and handle better as well). They look great, too. Turned TPMS off.

Finally put on my 2nd set of Spec-x's. Should've done it awhile ago, had over 20k on my first set and the new rubber transforms the ride! The guys at Formula in Long Island City did the install plus new front brakes and oil change. Great shop, seem to really know their stuff!

Sidebar and unrelated - one of my cornering lights went out last night, Formula didn't have a replacement in the shop so I stopped at Manhattan motorcars on the way home thinking they'd most likely not charge me for the bulb (Mercedes never did) but if they did, how bad could it be. I replaced one last year myself, bulb was less than $20, maybe less than $10, took all of 15 minutes. Manhattan said you should replace both cornering lights when one goes so I said sure. They changed the bulbs and handed me a ~$149 bill for their effort - they did not charge for the exterior car wash or the time I spent browsing the new models Lesson relearned!

Regarding ride and handle better ... did you compare them to the Spec-X's or something else?

I really like the way the 45' fill the wheel well too.

This is comparing to a set of Parada Spec-X's in 275 40 20. Like you, I decided to go with 275 45 20s.

Did you turn TPMS off as well?

I went with 22 inch HRE three piece wheels on my 2006 TTS. Had to turn the TPS off?

The Speedo is a little off. IS that quote about the GPS true?? Will the speedo self calibrate?

How do you turn the TPMS off? I have 21" tires (correct size 295/35) and the lights drive me crazy. The require 39 # front and 43 # rear. After wearing out the middle of the rear tires, the tire dealer says that I am running too much pressure. If I lower to 40, the lights stay on. I cant figure this system out.

sorry to thread hijack

I run 275/45/20 also.

I never installed tpms on the tires. I get a chime when I start the car and then just the tire pressure light is on all the time.

I just check my tires pressure manually like other (non-awesome) cars I end up cleaning the rims at least once a week so I just check it then.

When i put my winter tires back on they have the tpms on them.

The speedo is off by 2% with the 275/45 tires. If your doing 60 its really 61.. OH NOOOOO.

speedo is off by 4 mph at 96. The ticket said 100mph and the speedo never exceeded 96. Darn those unmarked SUV's.
