Who uses the paddle shifters

My 993 is a tiptronic and I use the paddle shifters 100 % of the time. I do this for the obvious reasons of keeping the rpm's up on the air cooled engine plus the pure driving enjoyment. On my wife's CS, I find no reason to use them, and honestly do not enjoy using them on the cayenne. If you enjoy using them, great! I am wondering how many of you use the paddle shifters and what percent of the time and what is your main reason for using them?? Thanks, Mike

On my 996 Turbo, I use them about 90% of the time.
On my Cayenne Turbo, I use them only about 10% of the time.

First thing in the morning Ill use them since it hangs on to the gears so long to warm up the cat. i hate revving it that much when its cold so Ill upshift using the paddle to keep the revs low. Otherwise as RxPorsche says, only when passing or racing

only use mine when I need to launch her hard from a dead stop other wise I seem to have mastered the throttle kick-down/ down shift like when Im being chased on the twist's and I throttle then lift off and she will nicely gear down be in the sweetest spot of the rev range and glue down like she has magnets... I find too much of a delay with using them maybe its because I have played with the PDK toooo much...

I will manually shift to first when at a stoplight if I need to get a jump at the line, other times downshifting before a curve is fun as well. Usually play with the tip when boredom sets in while cruising along the interstate. But overall, the tip gets used maybe 10-20% of the time.

I have a steep uphill driveway at my vacation house -I use the paddles to select 1st gear before proceeding up the driveway. Also sometimes when descending a steep hill at slow speed to downshift to a lower gear instead of using the brakes. Otherwise the regular tiptronic mode works just fine for me.

I would say only when passing.

If I want to go fast, I just turn PSM off.

they're not actually "paddle" shifters, they're buttons and i think it makes no sense unless you have PDK, which is not available for Cayenne yet (shame on you Porsche, oh btw, i'm not gonna buy that ugly 2011 Cayenne)

good call canberk. i just realized this morning that shifting down to first gear is the best way up a sloping driveway. usually i have to rev it up to get it to crawl up the hill, otherwise the hill holding assist will defeat any kind of finesse throttle you feed. after nearly cresting my driveway one morning, v8 turbo all snarling and angry loud with revving, i see that to my left are my wide eyed neighbors, with their dogs on short leashes, frozen out of fear of dying, stopped just short of me running them over. so now i'm more careful. no more batcave/aliens apc exits!

as far as rowing thru the gears goes, i'm not inclined to manually do this. except as others have said, to get a faster start off the line, or to aid in slowing down. so rarely do i use the buttons.
