Used Cayenne Turbo, which model years?

I’m moving to Minneapolis and need to get and AWD vehicle. Looking at a preowned (possibly certified) Cayenne Turbo or Turbo S. Is there anything I should look out for, and any model years that are problematic? Was hoping to get into a 07 or earlier. Any problems with vehicles with more than 50K miles?

get an '06 CPO. Most of the issues have already been resolved like driveshaft, tailgate struts, and coolant pipes.

The 2005 or newer models are preferred. Make sure the plastic coolant tubes have been replaced or price in the cost of replacement to the new tubes......$2,000 or so. Mine were replaced at 60K miles.

Just be aware they eat through tires and some are only getting 8-10K miles per set of tires.

Good luck on your search.

I just bought an '03 with 35k miles. All the TSB's and warranty items were fixed by Porsche. Story goes that Porsche released these they wanted everything cleared up on all of them. The Porsche service reps were compensated to seek out outstanding TSB's that had not been done to the cars. Mine had over 24 TSB's fixed. The one that turned out to be a bit of a hack was the rear seat belt tensioning. Other than that, it is great and I'm not afraid to beat it up a bit since I got it for a good price.

As far as I know there were no Cayennes built for 2007. CPO is nice but Porsche doesn't seem to be standing behind their warranty like Porsche used to. They've become like all the rest.

My local dealer treated me well but always insists I sign off authorizing HUGELY EXPENSIVE repairs just to get them to look at it and it is under full warranty.

When I began shopping I was warned against the 2004's, especially cracking coolant pipes. However, my 2005 CTT has the same damned plastic pipes! I beleive they got rid of those for the 2006 model year.

2008 is the sweet year IMO because the navigation system was totally revamped and the engine is larger. Those plastic A/C pipes were changed.

Certainly, I like my 05 Cayenne Turbo. I prefer it over the TurboS because I can use smaller wheels (18") for snow tires and AT tires. Plus, since the CTT tires are the same on all four corners, I can rotate my tires and get more use out of them. They do use tires; keep up your tire pressure and don't let it remain too low.

However, turbo lag is hell on snow & ice. If I had to buy right now, I'd look for a heavily optioned Transyberia. The air suspension of these is a must have.

Plan on extra sets of wheels. I have three full sets; 2-18"s and a set of 20"s.

The most signficant thing about 50,000 miles is the Porsche only CPO's cars with less than 50,000 miles. With proper maintainence, I think one could get 500,000 miles out of one of these.

My '06 CTT had the plastic coolant pipes, so they were still using them some then.

I love my CTT, but then again I don't have to deal with snow and ice that often in Texas... and turbo lag really doesn't bother me since I've had a few turboed cars -- just have to be careful on throttle application.

If I were looking now, I'd probably still aim at a turbo model but would look for ones with the 4.8L engine with DFI... or a lightly used Maserati GranTurismo S.

I stand corrected on that plastic pipping. There is so much to learn about these beasts.

BTW, what's MY SUV doing in YOUR driveway!

Same damned color.

Great camo for blending in with the tarmac at a distance.

No sense drawing too much attention to 2 and 1/2 tons hauling . . .

Yes, it would be hard to give up the turbo. It comes standard with so many options. Mine still smells of leather. Tons of it and an alcantara headliner (So what if it's plastic. It certainly looks & feels nice.).

06 CS still has plastic coolant pipes.

I have a feeling that 05/06 are almost the same, except 06 has the light indicator above the screen regarding to passenger air bag, which I haven't yet bothered to figure out.
