Trip meter?
That's good news. I called the dealer here in Dallas this afternoon. They said one of five had been fixed with switch cleaner. The other solution was to replace the instrument cluster: $3 grand. Don't need it that bad. I'll look for a button swap. Thanks.
The problem is the plastic fatigues and cracks over time for the button cap.
I was told by Suncoast in FL you can order them, they are like 8 bux a piece. To replace you pop off the old one and snap on the new one.
I ordered both the clock and trip reset, never came. Called and was told they were on back order from germany, has been 4 years now and I never heard back
So waaay back then I had just popped mine out. I confirmed I could reset the clock if I pressed the pole down with a ballpoint pen or something. If I recall correctly, the button cap was a square tube and the switch was a square post that fit inside the button/cap. Two places it clips had a micro crack, so when I pushed it down, the button's pole inside had enough resistance to push back on the cap, widening the crack and causing the switch tube that fits inside the button to push further in to the cap/button, rather than me pushing the button in for the reset.
I thought of stuffing something inside the cap, but that seem too troublesome. So I seem to recall take a needle or something and spliting the crack apart enough, to get flexible superglue in there, but not cause the crack to split more. I let it dry for 24 or whatever hours, and it has been working fine for about 4 years now.
My clock button had the same problem, but I never bothered since you can set it from the navigation.
I accept checks for $1000 since I saved you 3 grand for the replacement cluster

I was able to pull the old off and see a very fine crack in the button itself. I used a Phillips driver just the right size (no. 2) to spread the crack enough to apply a touch or two of superglue with a toothpick. Squeezed the crack shut and wiped off excess, then wrapped with a rubber band to hold.
A few hours later it clicked back in place. Works fine. Dealer found the little button for $32, so don't be looking for a $1k check in the mail.
Thanks for the idea though.
