New owner of 06 TT S - few questions...

got it for 30,201 miles, drove it for about 270 miles.. not have had a problem.. only recorded (on the books) service was an oil change done at 20,100 miles.. it was a leased vehicle and they said they (not a porsche dealership) don't have any other records..

questions:

1. is ok to have an oil change to an indie shop? i see this shop in my area specializing in european cars, seeing a lot of porsche's, land rovers, benz's in their lots for service

2. i had to stop at a gas station (after about 180 miles driving non-stop), filled it up then it took longer to start (like i was out of battery?).. gave it a break of about a minute and tried again, then it started ok.. \when i got back home, tried several times - start/stop and didn't happened again

3. oil consumption - does the computer shows if your low in oil? or you just have to check (e.g. every month?)

4. any issues to watch out for?

so far, it drives great... still kinda getting used to the power of this car coming from a 300hp v8 Armada (although I miss the space on that tank)

While shopping for a car I have had GOOD luck doing this:

Look at the carfax and try to figure out where the car was first sold/registered.
Then google a bit if the selling/leasing dealership's name isn't in there. With highline brands there usually isn't more than two or so dealerships per city. Just call one and ask to speak to the service manager. Talk to him real nice and polite and tell him you have a vehicle that your concerned about and ask for some service history, open recalls , etc.
If that dealer did not originally sell the vehicle they are usually more than happy to tell who did. They wont give sensitive info. You can find out a bunch about a vehicles history this way, usually the reseller doesnt even have the sense to do this. A bit of craftiness and cunning, combined with some investigative skills goes a long way.
Good luck-

found out this morning that the oil (marker - dip stick) is about above the half-marker.. i drove this car from dallas to houston stoping only once.. finger-crossed that nothing major to repair, etc.. i'll have the oil change.. the tires and breaks seems decent but then again, this is my first porsche.. the tires seems to be almost brand new (dealer/seller have setup new tires prior to selling/posting..

Hey,

I took our 997tt to Motowerks for a laser interceptor install. To be honest I was not happy with their work. They had the car in the shop by 8am and we picked it up at 6pm. The install was sloppy. I left the lot and my license plate fell off the car. I had to stop and pick it up... they for got to tighten it back up.

I got home and the LI did not work properly. I took the car back right away. The owner and his partner were very sorry and they did make the install right. We could not tell if the installer damaged the unit or it came that way, but Cliff at LI shipped a new part right away.

I am going to give them one more try, on our 957 tt for a couple of upgrades in November/December. They have a good amount of P-Cars in the shop, they must be doing okay.

Lets us know how your experience goes!

i will post results, as said, good reviews.. i had a bad experience on some other dealership with my previous car before... a ticking/annoying noise coming from the brakes (i think) of my 04 350z - told that dealership that it worries me that the brakes may fail when i least expect it, after several days, then weeks of going back and forth, they can't still figure it out - eventually saying it's ok.. i ended up trading it in after 1 week (they won't let me take my money back) and got a newer car (the 06 just came out).. to make the story short, bad service, bad experience..

my point here is atleast, they (motorwerks) acknowledged the mistake/error/or sloppy work and re-did it again.. i hope they didn't charge you extra for the re-install (?)

as said, i'll hope that the car I got doesn't have major issues.. i have n warranty on it (but shopping for a good rate)

You're looking at a very expensive brake service soon. Your brakes are beefier than the other models and cost more but they are needed with that extra performance.

Yes, the computer tells me when the oil level is at the bottom limit on my oil stick. These turbos use considerable oil. Sometimes as much as a quart every 750 miles.

Most oil change places don't know that there are two oil drain plugs and that they need to be torqued to 40 ft/lbs. Most will not be equipped to change the filter charge and few will have the Porsche tool necessary. Still, many can do it and you can do it yourself.

MotorWerks head mechanic & ( i think invested in the place some how) worked at Porsche west in Houston for years. He has a great knowledge of our cars. But unfortunately he did not do my LI install.

No extra charge for the fix. They offered to drop the car off at my house (not far from the shop). They made it right. That’s why I am willing to give them another go.

They must of had at least 10 p cars, AMG's, Ferrari’s, Bentleys, M5, and a lambo. All in pieces on site. I hope they can put them all back together =) .

The service prices are very reasonable. I would make sure that the P-Guy is working on your car and not a newbie.

I think the guy's name is Akram (or Akrom).. I was really planning to get this service done thru Momentum Porsche, or Porsche West Houston (as these are the closest dealership in my area) but the people I spoke with seems to be disinterested in answering questions.. as said, the reviews on this place are all 5 stars.. I have work that day but would try to stay and see how they go about inspecting the car..

.. and I think he mentioned that he'll try to walk me thru the car, either while doing the inspection (I guess), or show me the features.. man, i'm just excited about this car..

the brakes feels ok for now, just anticipating when and how much it'll cost for refinishing the rotors and replacing the brake pads (are these the same brakes as those brembo grand turismo kit?)

we all hope for no hits.. when i still have my 350z, i get speeding tickets left and right.. that's expensive.. since i don't have plates on the front, cops attach that to the speeding violation

I have not had a ticket in a while, but when I do get stopped they have never mentioned the front plates (I don’t have them). I did test the LI again to make sure it was working. I used to get hit all the time on 610 with laser... now with the LI the V1 never goes off..... Figures

I am going the LI for the Cayenne as well, but i wanted to test it out first.
