Tire and Wheel thoughts and questions
Posters here have said:
The wheel wells on the Cayenne are too huge for stock tires, especially the stock 18s on the S
The 20" summer tires do not last- nightmares are kicking into my head about the unidirectional advans on the evo that cost, cost cost every few months.
I am willing to spring 3k above the S stock wheels but do not want to spend more than 1k per annum for tires (we run about 20k).
We are hoping for our "
s" to provide evoesque handling for me and lexus comfort for her. I did pony up for all suspension ugrades including AS.
What advice can you give please? From an emotional standpoint I'm thinking the 275 mm tread width with an aspect ratio of 45 might be optimum. ( I like the rs spyder look but think they would draw more attention than I wish so desgin II may be way to go.
From a practical point of view perhaps the 19s or even 18 make way more financial sense but is a 255 tread width and 55 aspect ratio near sporting enough.
Are any of the summer tires bi-directional? I think my Potenza REs on the evo provide more value than the stock unidirectional advans were offering.
Advice gladly received. Thanks much. The car is to be built in March for April delivery. I bellieve it was ordered on Saturday- what is the normal window for changes and how do the dealers handle these?

Did you order the PASM option on your car? It makes a big difference, in many ways.
I have OEM 20" Porsche Sport Techno wheels on my Cayenne S. I generally keep the PASM set on the "low" position, and this really does a nice job of filling out the wheel wells with the 20s. As far as wife comfort, I keep the suspension set on "normal" and it's pretty cushy. You can also put it on "comfort", but I find this to be a little to soft. The other setting is "sport", but this makes the ride really rough. Even more than the 911.
As for tires, I've ended up going with a *gasp* non n-spec, all-season radial. I use the Continental Extreme Contact DWS. I like it much better than the OEM summer-only Contis, both in terms of tread wear and ride quality. I think the set was roughly $1,200 installed, which is pretty good. I'm hoping to get 30K miles out of them.
In the photo below, my Cayenne is in the "loading" position, so it's actually just a tad higher during normal driving.
