New Cayenne -- Short Service Interval

Just picked up a new Cayenne (V6). I now have about 600 miles on it. Last night the Service in 2000 miles indicator came on. Why so soon? I thought the service intervals were much longer than this.

you said a "new cayenne V6" and with only 600 miles on?
im assuming that will be its "first service" which is not a service interval thing, its quite soon on (depending on how your car is driven)
the first service is a pre cursory check to make sure all is well.
and to change the oil etc (first time it can aquire all sorts of swarf etc.)
future intervals wont be as close dont worry.

Yes, this is normal for a new motor break-in... there is a lot of metal that is built up in the first 1000 or so miles due to components being worn in. Most manufacturers recommend an early first oil change to clean out the system.

I spoke with my dealer. The service interval is indeed longer. My car was a transfer from another dealer. The other dealer did the pre-delivery inspection. The inspection should have included a resetting of the service interval system. Evidently it was not properly set. Indeed my first service is at 10K miles or 1 year. They are going to fix it next week. Thanks for all the replies.

Your Porsche does not only rely on mileage to throw a service reminder, it also monitors time between two services...

Yes, but 600 miles is a little low for it to make those decisions I would think. Am I wrong? In any case, the dealer is going to see it next week or so.

Short service interval

Has it been sitting at the dealer lot for a while before you bought it? The manual I have says 1 year or 10k miles for the first oil service change.
