Coil(s) finally took a crap tonight - Looking for warranty / purchase info

Sitting in NYC traffic tonight, not moving, and the engine went into an miss. From smooth idle to bap, pap, bap, pap. Has all the symptoms of a bad coil.

So, I will pull them out tomorrow night and hunt for the bad ones. Question for the 6speed masses:

Does the recall apply to all cayennes regardless of miles, owners, etc? I am owner #2 with 30K miles (2005).

I may push the dealer as I need my ride drivable. Anyone here know if a local dealer will match Suncoasts price??? $300 for 8 of the new style packs.

(BTW - I did use my ODBscanner when I got home and "MISFIRE" came up right away ).

Dunno about any dealer prices - but NAPA sells a Beru replacement coil for around $29.. x8 is less then $250 for all 8. I bought one to toss in the spare tire well for my trip coast-2-coast - up the west coast -2-coast trip. The NAPA dealer had it in one day for me. You can find the PN on the NAPA national website, or just have the NAPA dealer look it up.

Currently wandering up the west coast.. (in San Rafael CA..)

Warranty???

On the first gen Cayennes from what I was told Porsche sent out some letters states that they are going to extend the warranty on the ignition coils up to 100,000 miles. In order for the dealer to warranty the ignition coils the check engine light have to be on and the fault codes have to do related to the ignition coils (misfire faults).

Please contact your local dealer for full details of this. Hope all works out the best!

Sincerely,
Greg Hwang

Called jack Daniels Porsche - said to drop it off tomorrow for repair on Monday. Service mgr said as long as the check engine light is on, they replace all 8 under the tsb at no charge.

Will post the aftermath next week.

Did your CEL come on after the misfire? I've had a stumble here and there while at idle, but no CEL.

You know what really irks me is I had two coils that produced codes, yet they would only warranty those affected, so I had to replace the others on my dime. Then you get a post like this and the dealer does the "right" thing for the customer and replaces the set, Porsche really needs to work on customer satisfaction and consistency with the dealerships!!!

I had a slight stumble for months with no CEL. When the coil(s) finally crapped out, it did exactly as I expected - No CEL until I goosed it and then I am sure every sensor read rich, and fired the CEL.

On my 30 Scanner I read:

po 300 - random Misfire
po 304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire
po 308 - Cylinder 8 Misfire
po 358 - Ox Sensor (of course as its sensing lean)

My stupid little pepboys odb scanner is worth every dime I paid for it X 100

Hold up bro - the dealer has not called me back yet so we will see

I did find my letter from porsche saying if there is a bad coil with a CEL they WILL replace them all. I will try to remember to bring it to the office and scan it.

Rox- Would love to find my letter, if you can scan yours that would help. Just had one coil replaced but they wouldn't do the others.

WTF???? Is your dealer some harda$$ or do they only have one coveted golden coil that only the brave of heart get?????

So the update is:

> Dropped it off on Saturday at Jack Daniels on 208 near Paramus Nj.
> Service manager Joe called me on Monday to say it was done.
> I picked it up on Tuesday

All 8 replaced, NO BILL, NO HASSLE, did not need to show them anything, not even the letter. Receipt had all 8 coils on it and I did check to make sure - Yup all 8 were new.

I just cant figure out WHY dealers will do this crap to their customers when there is enough Fing evidence on the net to say " PORSCHE WILL REPLACE THEM FOR FREE UP TO 100,000 MILES"

Your service manager is bonehead - you should have another dealer replace you coils and then do a drive-by Coil pelting of your old dealership.

Will try an post the letter - just super busy now.

Pete I owe you an apology. I found the letter and as it turns out it says "coil" and not "Coils" which I assumed it did. Sorry for this and if your ever in NJ I owe you a beer. I snapped a quick pic - see below.

Sounds like some dealers aren't following the TSB which says if one is bad to replace all 8.
