Weird noise from front wheels

Driving home from work yesterday, my 06 S developed a sound and feeling similar to a flat tire. A constant thud thud thud thud thud and I felt a vibration that corresponded with the 'thuds'. I pulled over and visually inspected all 4 tires, there was no flat. The noise is coming from the front left corner it sounds like. It gets louder and the frequency gets quicker as you drive faster. It goes away when I turn the wheel to the left, gets worse when I turn the wheel right. My suspicion is the wheel bearing went.

How easy of a DIY is this? Any other suggestions on things to check before disassembling the hub?

The hint is turning it changes the noise. Wheel bearing. Dunno how hard a job it is - since you have a drive axle involved..

Scarpoolla is infamous around these parts
Yea, that sounds like a bad bearing. Especially if the noise goes away when you load the wheel up with weight. I had a rear wheel bearing go bad on my 06 CS. The job is not a DIY. The reason being is that a professional bearing puller will be needed in order to do the job. The cayenne uses sealed bearings, so they cannot be repacked. I think the front is easier to change than the rear as you basically have to drop the rear assembly out of the car. The Porches repair manaul quotes the job for a rear bearing at around 5-6 hours. I had the job done for $500 at my indy porsche mechanic. You will also need to alignment done when the job is completed. Good Luck.
