Last week I purchased a 2000 911 C2 and this week I bought an 05 Cayenne Turbo. The Cayenne has a crack inside the drivers side head light on the piece that surrounds the turn signal bulb. Can I outsource that piece from a salvage yard or do you have to replace the entire expensive head light? It looks like the entire assembly can be had for $400, but I would like to get away with less.

Also, when the brake pads wear down, is it really necessary to replace the rotors? That would be abnormal to any car I have ever worked on.

You can buy the bulb socket separate from the headlight housing, but if it's part of the housing or lens assembly, you have to get the whole headlight. You could buy one from a salvage yard and take it apart just to see if you can swap the broken part out, but I doubt you'll find a good deal on a Cayenne headlight at a salvage yard.
As for the brakes, most of the time you'll need rotors. The combination of aggressive pad compound and relatively soft rotors means you wear through the rotors pretty quickly. Feel the edge of the rotor. If there's a noticeable lip on the edge of the rotor, it should be replaced.
