Coolant Pipes & Aftermarket Warranty 04 CTT
Coolant Pipes & Aftermarket Warranty 04 CTT
Thought I would share my recent experience with the group. Right before New Year's I was driving home with my usual heavy foot. After a quick stop I accelerated and immediately my check coolant level light came on and the temperature gauge began to rise. Looking at my rearview mirror I could see that the cars behind me were beginning to taste some beautiful white smoke. Luckily, I only had roughly a mile back to my home so I took it easy and guided her back into the garage. There was some dripping/leaking but nothing major. Right away I called Hoehn Porsche in Carlsbad and Newport Beach Porsche to see what they had to say. After getting the car towed to Newport they broke the dreaded but expected news, my coolant pipes had finally burst.
I had tried to plan ahead, I purchased my 04' CTT last February from a friend with only 40k miles and at the time also purchased a 4/48 BtoB aftermarket warranty from Mercury Select (Platinum Package) through Schools First Credit Union in so cal. Yet still in all of my reading of this site and the other one
I was resigned to the fact that most likely the $3,400 (yep that's right) that Newport Beach Porsche quoted me was coming out of my pocket.
Jason the service rep there submitted the claim and shortly after informed me that Mercury had declined it saying they don't cover pipes. Being proactive he said I should call them and see what they say. The warranty with Platinum coverage states that anything not named in the not covered section will be covered. The rep tried numerous times to call the coolant pipes many different things in the not covered section, hoses, lines, housings to no avail. I was determined to beat this and finally they agreed to send an adjustor out. The next morning Jason called me to let me know Mercury decided not to send the adjustor and would cover the full replacement with aluminum pipes and T pipe at no cost to me.
Needless to say I was ecstatic and could not believe that I had saved $3K that was set aside knowing this day would come. So, anyone in so cal out there looking at a good deal on a CTT with old pipes may want to check out this aftermarket warranty as it made me one happy and relieved CTT owner!!!

So far the warranty sounds like a wash.. you paid for it about what you've collected from it. Your experience is a rare one, most warranty companies will do almost anything to get out of paying for a repair if they think they can get away with it, and there are numerous reports on the Interwebz of companies not paying for coolant pipes (using the reasons you claimed they tried with you.)
You must have great powers of persuasion, or you're an attorney..

Yeah as I said all that I had read made me worry that this was still coming out of pocket. But, by buying the Platinum package it specifically states anything not listed in the "We Do Not Cover" section will be covered. The warranty has been a wash so far, coolant pipes, coils, and electronic transfer case and control module have all been replced so far totaling close to 6k in parts and labor which is about what I paid for the warranty. The beauty of it however is I am only 10 months into my 48...
