Anybody need to fab their aftermarket LED tail lights when installing?
Finally popped the OEM tail lights out to put my new LED lights in, and the ballast (the one above the pivot ball that snaps back in) is hitting the inside housing! it's only a 1/4x1/4 inch corner of the ballast, but that sucker is really glued onto the tail light so I can't relocate it. Can I shave that small piece of the ballast a little or will that damage it? Anybody else have to fab the back side of their LED lights when they installed them?
Bought these lights from 360tuners, and this piece is hitting on both sides on the same spot... I'll put pics of what I'm talking about in the morning for those who need a visual. For now all I have are the half installed pics from a distance...
PS sorry for the dirty pics, haven't washed her since the last snow storm.

So that's all you did? Wow, I must have some type of super adhesive holding mine in place then. I've been running a blow dryer around it for a minute, then trying to twist it off & still won't loosen up much.
Got them off finally, relocated above the other ones and the lights fit back in smoothly. I wouldn't suggest what I had to do to get them off though! Ended up using a scraper and a hammer & tapped in behind it slowly.
I think I have to do the same thing on the passenger side rear for me.........the first went right in and fit snug and smooth.
The passenger fits in but is obstructed bythe interior box.........where did you relocate too? Super glue to reahere?

I actually relocated it right above the blue one, but a little more towards the center of the tail light. I even moved the blue one a little bit inward as well and I found I could maneuver the whole light as high/low as I wanted to make sure the whole light was centered perfectly.
No glue, that stuff was really strong so I just pushed it in firmly once I found the right position for it.

I bought the same LEDs from 360Tuners and if not for this thread, I would have been terribly confused why they didn't fit and probably have sent them back.
It turns out that I also had to modify the placement of things. Whats interesting is the blue and black boxes were in opposite places on my lights! The black box was still the problem child, coming into contact with the inside of the light well and preventing installation. Further, the location of it had the wires directed into the very bottom of the light where a support cushion was located and it seemed like they might have seen some vibration-rubbing wear. Both lights were the same.
I relocated them above their "factory" positions and turned them sideways. I used a small screw driver to pry them off. They popped off with some outward pressure and then stuck right back on in their new positions.
I'm not exactly the most handy and this thread inspired me to take matters into my own hands.
Before and after pics are included.
Also note, getting my stock lights to let go and pop out took some serious tugging and I had trouble getting a good grip on them. I slipped a piece of string behind the outside corner and that really helped me get a handle on that side of the light. I had to pull way harder than expected, but each one eventually came out.
Thanks again,
John

No worries John, glad the post helped you out. Im really surprised 360 hasn't made the proper adjustments to alleviate these issues prior to selling them to us! I love my LEDs and think its the best exterior upgrade besides wheels...
I have an Eagle Eyes product on mine that doesn't have the above issue. However, there have been occasions when it pops out. The next time it happens, I'm going to back out the grey rod a couple of turns to give it some additional length so that it will go all the way through.
