Strange Behavior Memory Mirrors 955 CTT?

Hi all

The mirrors and sometimes seats in my late 2004 955 CTT are acting up regularly at present. Its mainly the mirrors but the drivers seat has gone crazy once or twice too, here are the symptoms:-

1. Door mirrors are regularly in completely different positions to those i have set. They appear to move when i open the door to get in (have keyless if that matters) and i have found that if i adjust one up for example, the other goes up too?

2. The memory function seems to not store, i notice that the second press of the M button on the seat doesn't produce the chime 90% of the time, the first one does, not the second?

3. Recently i got in and the mirrors were off but the seat also. I tried to correct using the memory but it sent me even further out. I then tried adjustment from the buttons but found that trying to select backwards motion only took me forward, and forward took me forward so no backward travel.

As i say, the seat thing appears to be an isolated case but the mirrors is most days. Somebody on rennlist asked if i had turned the mirror sync on, what is that and is it a likely cause of the above?

Not sure if i have a battery problem, i also get an occasional TPMS error and always get Air Suspension error which can be prevented by manually selecting special terrain before i drive away.

Not sure if these are all linked to a bad battery but the one under the seat was replaced a year ago after complete failure left the previous owner stranded in it.

Would love to hear peoples thoughts on why its acting crazy?

UK, RHD car btw.

Thanks

Carl

Have you replaced your batteries?

Many 04s have dual batteries. One starts the car, the other runs EVERYTHING else. Including the memory options for things like mirrors, keys, seats, etc.

One of the first signs that the "house" battery is dying is strange behavior like you describe. And of course many people miss that because the other battery starts the car fine.

No idea. I just went to the auto parts store and they looked it up. Both batteries are the same.

I would buy a battery load tester to test the battery instead of just buying a new one in hopes that it solves your issue.

I would also look into the "comfort module" aka "seat module" located under the driver seat. There have been a few threads that I ran across where this ECU goes bad and does not remember the correct seat positions, mirror positions, etc.

Waste of money IMO as most any auto parts or battery store will test them for free.

I'd always test them first. Just no reason to buy a tool you might only use every 5-6 years, maybe.

To each their own, but I disagree. There are a few good models for under $40, so they are very cost effective. Not sure about the parts stores out there, but the ones in the NY metro area are not very friendly and I would not let them touch any of my cars.

Man, its just a battery test not a test drive

If you don't know when the last time the battery was replaced I'd rather put the $40 towards a $100 battery for piece of mind instead of screwing around with buying extra tools.

I'm all for testing and DIY but some things are just worth the money up front. Why waist all the time to shop for and purchase a tester, disconnect the battery, test etc only to potentially save $60 more dollars?

I've been stranded by batteries that "tested good". Then you get on this cycle of testing it all the time to make sure its still good? Why not just replace an unknown age battery and be good with it

Some things I just don't want to waste time with. I figure by the time you start to suspect a battery might be the issue its better to just replace it.

I've noticed the past few days that it seems to be the drivers mirror (rhd car) that is always pointing up and when I adjust it down the passenger one goes down to so has to be put back up.

Anyone know why?

Can the seat module be removed without the need to take the seat out? Anyone know the part number for a 2004 CTT?
