Purchasing advice

I'm looking at buying either a 2003 Cayenne Turbo or 2006 Cayenne S the both have approximately 101k miles and both drive and look great.

I'm looking for advise on major issues or items I need to pay special attention too when looking over these cars.

Thanks

Look for:

cooling pipes (if not replaced, chances are you will have to do - $1700)
coils replaced
leaking valve cover seals
leaking driver side turbo tube (oil leak)
rotors/pads replacement (if close, you are looking at about $800 if you DIY)

I would ask to do a code check with durametric or other tool so you can see all errors the systems are showing.

Advice would be to have either, or both, privately inspected. That's the only way you'll know what it needs. Additionally, ask for all maintenance records which can show what has been done - and how thoroughly. Unperformed manditory maintenance on a vehicle with that mileage could be additional thousands.

Most people avoid the 2003 model year. It had many well-documented issues. It's possible that most issues have been addressed on a high mileage car, but it may still have some surprises in store for you. By 2006, most (but not all) of the issues had been addressed.

If you can live without a turbo the CS will not let you down. They still have a decent punch.
