Difficult starting in cold or warm...solved

I think...

Difficult to start when it's cold..usually below 30 degrees, I'd have to crank it a few times...sometimes up to 7-8 but will always start. 08 turbo model.

After driving and engine warm i've been having issues starting on the 1st crank after fueling up or restarting shortly.

I've thought it was the battery but new one didn't solve. I thought it was fuel pump...pulled fuse 13 and 14. Car runs fine with each fuel pump. I did replace both fuel pump relays as at one point, I had primary fuel pump relay no signal code with durametric. Secondary fuel pump was replaced about 20k miles ago also....I know the primary should have been replaced then but wasn't

I've read other people with similar issues and 1 dealer mentioning a "valve" in the fuel filter. Our fuel filters are enclosed and you have to purchase the whole assembly.
The fuel filter assembly is inside the fuel tank....there's many diy's for fuel pump you can look up. In order to change the fuel filter you have open up both sides of the fuel tank openings as the fuel filter is connected to the fuel pressure regulator on the other side.(under rear seats)
I replaced both the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel filter. I did both as I've passed 107k miles. I cracked open the fuel filter assembly to see what the filter looked like...I'm going to say it was clogged. It looks much darker than the picture.

So far cold start and restarting when engine warm has been uneventful..we'll see but I think my issues been resolved.

FYI make sure you purchase the specialty tool to remove the retaining ring to the pumps. I see diy's with people using a screwdriver and hammer but I can see where that can go wrong
