The 22" Cayenne Tire thread

i've seen lots of different member runnng LOTS of different tires. Different sizes and different brands.

Let's look at a few things.

OE Porsche 275/40-20 is 28.7" diam
OE Porsche 255/55-18, 235/65-17 are 29.0" diam

Replacement 22" are:

265/35-22 is 29.3" tall
285/30-22 is 28.7" tall
285/35-22 is 29.9" tall
295/30-22 is 29.1" tall
315/30-22 is 29.4" tall

The 265 is ok on 9" wheels, the 285/35 is ok on 9.5" and the 285/30 and the 295/30 need 10" wheels. The 315/30 is a beast and needs 10.5" wheel.

The most popular tires seem to be:

Pirelli Scorpion Zero Assimetrico - 265/35, 285/30 and 295/30's
Continental Cross Contact UHP - 265/35, 295/30 and 315/30's
BFG TA-KDW2 - 285/35's
Kumho ECSTA STX 265/35's
Hankook Ventus RH06 - 265/35, 295/30's
Nitto NT420S - 265/35, 295/30's
TOYO Proxes S/T - 265/35, 285/35 and 295/30's
Michelin Diamari's - 285/35-22
Goodyear Wrangler F1 - 285/30

There are also some "Sports Car" tires that may be usable on Cayenne... the load ratings may not be correct, but all are "XL" and super sticky

Dunlop SP Sport MAxx - 265/35 and 305/30's
Dunlop SP Sport 9000 - 285/30-22

Why doesn't anyone ever run 285/30"s? Same diameter as a 275-40-20! Has anyone had a blow-out from hitting a pot-hole @ speed on 22's?

With steel suspension you get around 1.25-1.6" of drop with springs. What looks best with steel? With air, you can drop it down all the way to the wheels, lol...

So WHAT are the best combinations of tires and sizes? It seems some people BLAMED the Pirelli's for vibration... was it really the tire or the genetic 2003/2004 vibration?

I've seen some people HATE the 295/30... the 285/35 looks too tall on some cars especially with steel susp...

opinions? Anyone have pics of A-B comparisons between tire sizes? reviews of different wheels?

can anyone ID this tire? Look at the tread, it's a conti CC uhp, and it's a 22, so it's either 265/35 or 295/30 and the rim is 22 x 10... any guesses?

has anyone ever seen a 22" Yokohama? That's why I didn't include it in the thread. Their website shows a 295/30-22 but noone has it.

Considering 22" Victor Equipment Wheels

Did you decide on the 22s? I'm trying to figure out if I want 22x10 all the way around of if I want 20x10 in the front and 20x11 in the back. I'm concerned about ride and the pot holes that we have in the chicago area.
