957 Cayenne rear hatch / tailgate problem
2009 Cayenne S. Power tailgate stopped opening/closing. Open button above the license plate causes the latch to release and the door to open about 1/2", but the power lift mechanism doesn't engage. I can manually open and close the door. When closing it manually, the power mechanism pulls the hatch in the last 1/2" and latches closed.
Glass hatch release button works fine. Remote control hatch button does nothing. Close button on the bottom right of the hatch is lit but does nothing.
Checked all fuses on the right and left sides of the instrument panel, and the one on the battery. All good.
Durametric is giving me the following faults:
- 3074 Rear lid tilt angle sensor short circuit to B+ (I replaced the sensor - no change)
- 1341 Instrument cluster no signal / communication transient fault
- 908 Wiper motor no signal / comm transient fault
- 668 Vehicle voltage terminal 30 inplausible signal transient fault
All other systems on the car are working fine.
So what might be the issue? Gateway problem?
Help appreciated.
Pete

From what I have been able to find, Porsche doesn't even know how to fix this issue, but the people who have solved this riddle say the rear hatch needs to be adjusted from the top hinges, or the metal plate that flaps down around the anchor point can sometimes cause this problem. I'm having a similar problem, as many others with Cayennes, and the most posts that have found a solution typically say the hatch isn't lining up perfectly and the systems are so sensitive, even a tiny "error" in the alignment seems to be the issue. I replaced my electronics and motorized latch and got no change as well. Tough to fix as the window and hatch struts need to be removed in order to align/adjust the rear hatch and it weighs a ton. I haven't fixed mine yet, but can at least stop the beep warning and dash lights from always being on. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply. My open/close alert system is functioning properly. When I manually open the hatch, it shows open on the dash display, and when I manually close it and the latch power pulls it closed, I don' t get an alert.
I checked the hatch hydraulic motor - working fine in both directions. And there is sufficient power at the rear end controller located below the hydraulic motor (where I jumped the wires to test the hatch motor). The hatch button is sending the right signal to the controller. My next step is to put an oscilloscope across the controller CAN bus lines to see if it is getting a signal. If yes, I will try swapping out the rear end controller. Hopefully it doesn't have to encoded with the car's VIN, as the nearest dealer is 3 hours away.
The problem started when I opened the trunk after the car had sat for a few months in the cold (inside) on a trickle charger. The hatch went up about half way and stopped, never to move under its own power again.

Problem finally solved. The ground wire for the tilt angle sensor that is in the wiring harness that passes through the left tailgate hinge had broken where it passes between the tailgate hydraulic cylinder and the rear hatch window strut. It's a very hard place to get access to, and the wiring harness appears to not have much room to move in that space. I ran a jumper wire to bypass the broken wire.
So why didn't I look here sooner. Well, when I put a meter on the signal wire coming from the tilt sensor, I got a variable signal that made it look like it is working. That is because there was power reaching the sensor, and my meter was probably completing enough of the ground circuit to make it appear like there was a signal.
Moral of the story. If you are getting tilt angle sensor error codes, and a slew of other gateway codes, check the wiring harness at the rear hatch hinge first.

As for the ground wire… did you have a photo of how you did it. I got same problem ’door wont go down whatsoever’.
Thanks
I recon that in the left compartment that the two tailgate shocks installed in, there are two metal lines marked red and blue that seems to go directly into the end of the bigger shock. Not sure what they are. And if only powered tailgate has them?

Yes, the wiring harness runs up the left (drivers) side. The two lines on the shock are hydraulic lines. They operate the rear hatch using hydraulic power. Don't disconnect them.
Run a meter from the tilt sensor to the connector on the rear lid controller which is in the well on the left side above the wheel well. One wire should go to the connector, the other to ground.

I was always getting the tailgate/hatch open warning all the time even though it was perfectly secure. It wasn't the glass, but the tailgate/hatch. The dash light was bugging me. I just simply disconnected the wire connector from the secured latch bar under the bumper cover and everything works fine now. No warning light. The tailgate opens with remote or lever in the car and the motorized latch still motors on when you press the rear hatch release handle in the back. I can't find anything that isn't working from disconnecting that plug and the dash light is finally staying off. This was on a 2005 Cayenne S.
