Will wheels in staggered sizes make the TCS, traction control system not working?

Hi, all, One of my friend is going to buy a Cayenne Turbo S wheel for his CS. We all know that the Turbo S has Techno 20x10 for the rear instead of all 4 for 20x9. We called a sales guy and he told us if we use Turbo S wheel on the S model, this would have the TCS, traction control system not working because the CS does not come from factory wheels in staggered sizes. Is this true? We never heard about this before, can someone explain? Many thanks!

Should we just use all 4 for 20x9? Why Turbo S has 20x10 for the rear?

I agree. I never heard that before. Here is the full reply from the sales:

Because of this my friend miss the deal from ebay. Someone bought the Turbo S wheels for $2500 2 hours ago...

Not true:
Sport Technos can be installed 9" on all 4 corners or 9" in the front and 10" in the rear.
Refer to the bottom of this page for P/N and descriptions:

Need to call back that salesperson and educate him!
Ask him why a consumer, such as yourself, needs to do this, and why he would flat out display his ignorance by a false statement?

There is only one set on ebay and was sold 6 hours ago! We asked another seller on the question because he has 20x9 for all 4. If we did not ask the question this wheel will be ours yesterday. I think we have to wait for another set...

Before any purchase on eBay it is always wise to be 100% sure before final transaction. You were just verifying things - another op will come along, no worries.

The biggest key here is to keep the overall diameter the same front to rear. The car's systems usually work (don't know how for sure on the Cayenne) by monitoring revs per mile and slip. As long as they are the same, no problem. If you vary the back tire's size too much from the front, the car thinks the back wheels are slipping and engages the systems to correct it. Most cars will allow 3-5%, but no more.

Thanks for the info! How about still use the same 275x40x20 for all 4 tires but rear wheel change to 20x10? This is what Turbo S have....

of course it's no problem. The 275/40-20 will have the same diameter front and rear no problem... you can even have a small difference in f/r and it won't hurt anything...

The AWD system can be damaged when the front wheels and the rear wheels rotate at different speeds. The AWD system detects this and senses a "loss of traction". OTOH, they are built with a certain tolerance to allow some variation in speed. Also, if your center differential is "unlocked" as it is 99% of the time, theres 0 problem. But this concern is for tire HEIGHT not width.
