IF you looking for 20" wheels for winter. My friend just got a set of 20" techno rep. off ebay. On the car, I can't tell they were rep. They even come with centre caps. For ONLY $549 a set, yes SET OF 4. How can you top that!

Don't assume they were piece of junk. I fully understand most of the people don't want to risk $500 wheels on their $100K Porsche. I've some 18" RS4 rep wheels on my A4 when there is no correct offset OEM for my car. They go thought 4 Toronto winters and I still find nothing wrong with them. I've weight the rep. with the OEM pc., the rep. even lighter than OEM. My friend have those 20" Techno for couple months and didn't heard any complain. So I suggest them as cheap winter beater.

Does anyone REALLY think that a "cheap wheel" is REALLY going to fall apart while driving down the highway?? Honestly? I asked the guy at Discount Tire about their replica wheels and he said that EVERY wheels sold in the US is DOT approved and goes thru extensive testing.

I mean let's be real, Gemballa 22" is a At Italia Presa. Right? Gemballa has a G cap done up and there you go. $550 ea for AT and $1800 each for Gemballa. Same wheel? Of course.

one more time... in a "street car" environment, do you think a replica wheel is going to fall apart at 85mph on the I-5?

I'm SURE that if a Discount Tire replica wheel fell apart on the highway killing a family of 5 because of a bad wheel... they'd be out $50M... their Insurance carrier wouldn't allow them to stock an uncertified wheel.

I dont think you should buy replica wheels if you drive a 6000lb car that has a 165mph topspeed...

well... I can assure you that 90% of Cayenne never go over 100mph.

But anyways... what's wrong with a replica alloy? The Sport Techno replicas on eBay are lighter than OE Porsche... is the alloy "bad"? Will it "shatter" on impact or something? The formulation of aluminum alloys was advanced even in WW2, 60+ years ago... I highly doubt there's much "structural difference" between OE and aftermarket. In fact... I bet that many aftermarket wheels are stronger than OE wheels.

I think back to the 80's when I had a Toyota truck with 40" tires and a big lift kit... I had these lighweight aluminum Centerlines on it. I plowed thru just about everything, rocks, tree trunks, mud, and who knows what else... never even dented them. A few years later I was driving my 3000GT VR4 and had something inside the car jam the steering wheel in the middle of a turn (mental note, do NOT load 6 foot pieces of PVC into the front passenger compartment thru the hatchback) so I hit a curb at about 40 mph... blew the tire, put a fist sized dent in the wheel and bent a lower control arm and broke a strut. Did the wheel (a 18" Konig) shatter, break or fall apart? No. I'd love to see a report where a guy has a replica wheel fall apart on the street... but I doubt if it's EVER happened.

Thanks ray!
