Tow hitch
SubscribeI just got a trailer for my boat but my cayenne doesn't have a hitch. My dads range has one but I would like to be able to tow it with my car. The porsche one is like a 1,000 bucks but i found on the u-haul website that u-haul makes one for 160 and it is rated up to 6,000 pounds. Has any one ever installed one of these on a cayenne. Would this fit under the stock bumper (the one made for the stock tow hitch).

Don't let that price deceive. That is for JUST the hitch, and none of the electronics. The Porsche kit includes the kitch, the wiring, and the trailer hitch control unit, which in and of itself is a couple thousand. Seen it done before and most times end up back at dealer for the right stuff.Originally Posted by CayenneS2083

I have a similar hitch I got at a local shop for around $300 rated at 6000 lbs. It does fit under under the normal bumper, it just has to be cut to allow the hitch to come out, this is the same with the porsche hitch....However, I didn't have any wiring or electrical donde since I onlymove my boat inside the marina so it wasn't worthe the money. My dealer wanted $ 1900 for the hitch and install if I remember correctly
Towing a trailer is serious business in my book. I would go to Porsche, have the correct hitch installed, and not worry about failure on the road. If your $160 hitch fails and your boat comes off your truck, causing an accident or worse, you would then have gladly paid the $1000 for the right hitch.
If I were you I would get the Porsche Tow Hitch just because to the trailer hitch module and wiring. I bought mine brand new from a Porsche dealer in PA (cant recall which dealer, but he posts here on 6Speed) for about $600. I have a guy here in Miami that works for one of the Porsche dealers in the area that would be able to install it for you at a fraction of the cost that The Collection will charge you. PM for details!
Hey CS2083
I am in the same boat you are and here is my story https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...=trailer+hitch
Pacific Porsche quoted around 800 plus shipping for the factory hitch. I plan on installing the hitch myself and then take it to my local dealer for the electronics.
What made me decide on the factory hitch is the wiring. The cayenne electrical system is very sophisticated and I did not want to splice any wires in.

I've looked up info on it and a bunch of people have hooked up Curt hitches. The install seems pretty simple and the wring doesnt seem to difficult either, just tap into the brake lights. Plus my trailer has no brakes so i don't have to worry about that.

That is the part that worries me the most. The Cayenne electrical system is very complicated and I just don't know what problems that will cause in the future (!)Originally Posted by CayenneS2083

I have also been told by my dealer that when you plug in a trailer to the factory wire loom the Cayenne detects the trailer is there and automatically goes into a tow mode. Tow mode adjusts trans shift points, adjusts the ABS settings, and he also told me that it becomes part of the factory security system. If you tap into the tail lights you will by pass all of these features.
I am not saying an aftermarket hitch is a bad thing but I just wanted to let you know what I have learned over the last 6 months of research. For me I am going to spend the extra money.
Good Luck
