Arrow Toyo Proxes 4 vs Proxes S/T

I am about to order some tires for my new techno wheels and I think the price of the Toyos is too good to pass up.

Now here's the question- The proxes 4 is not designed for SUV's but is instead intended for sedans. However, they have a higher load rating and speed rating.

The Proxes S/T is designed for SUV's but has a load rating lower than the 4's.

The other thing that bothers me about the S/T is the maximum PSI. It is rated at a maximum of 44psi. I believe the TPMS beeps at me any time the rears fall below 45psi. Won't this cause some problems?

Now, I have searched on this board and found some praise of the S/T's. What did you guys do as far as the tire pressure?

I just changed out my front two tires using Toyo Proxes S/T, I got it simply because the performance v.s price can't be beat ~ $350 set of 2. I don't have TPMS on my C-TT but I'll have to measure my air pressure to see what the tire shop set the tire pressure at. But so far the I like the tires, the ride quality is good and I just raced my friend's M6 up to about 130mph no issues.

I am not a fan of the Toyo S/T's. I had them on my X5 4.6is and I felt they lacked grip in the wet and the dry compared to the stock Michelin Diamaris. Granted they are half the price but if you can afford the Michi's, that is what I would get in a stock size. My seceond choice is BFG KDW2, but I am not sure if they come in stock size. I am assuming by your post these are for 20" Sport Technos 275/40/20.....

Ya, I am looking at the 275/40/20's. I'm curious to those of you who run them in that size- what psi are you running and are you having any issues with the TPMS?

I considered the Proxes 4 and the S/T when replacing my 20" Contis. I've never been a huge fan of the S/T tread, as I don't need an all season tire (I have an 18" set). While I liked the tread pattern of the Proxes 4, I couldn't get any feedback on whether anyone had used them on anything other than a small coupe/sedan. The load ratings are the same; the one drawback to the Proxes 4 was that it has a narrower width than the S/T, by almost an inch. I don't understand this, as they should both be 275, but check the specs on the website. I wasn't willing to get a narrower tire under any circumstances.

I ended up getting Nokian NRVi SUV's which were a little more than the Toyos (I was quoted 160 for the S/T, 180 for the Proxes 4 and 250 for the Nokians). I think that Nokian makes a great product, so I wanted to try them. Plus, their tread rating is close to 400, so I'm hoping to get more than the 6-7000 miles I got on the Contis. So far so good, although I've only had them for about a month, and my CTT has been at the dealer for the past 2 weeks. It took a while to get them balanced, but it seems like that has been a problem with many of the tires.

If price is an issue, I'd probably consider the S/T, as I could have had them for 600 mounted, out the door. Others tried Hankook Ventus - there's a thread on Rennlist about them.

Good luck.

Checked my tire pressure on my S/T's today, maximum is 50psi and parked over night while warming up thhe car the tire register 40-41psi. So I assume the tire ship gives about 10psi of room for heat up pressure.

I don't have TPMS on my C-TT.

I have teh 275 40/20 and just replaced the tires a few months ago, and am having issues with the TPMS. I was having issues before the tire change, but the TPMS worked pretty much most of the time, but after the change it doesn;t. I have just resorted to turning the TPMS off to avoid the "!" on each startup. kind of a pain to not be able to use a system on the vehicle but don;t want to throw money at it, when I am not sure what it is.
