CayenneS 08 CD Changer question

I just picked up an '08 Cayenne S with the PCM option. However I did the car did not come with the option of the CD changer. The dealer says the unit + install would run around $1K, which seems a little excessive to me considering CD changers can be had for around $150.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket CD changers that work with the PCM interface?

Thanks.

why dont you just do the dension 500 Ipod interface for half the price...and can hold hundreds more tracks than a cd changer...

none that I know of (wish I did). the difference between aftermarket changers (good one will run you at least 300+ install, not PCM intergrated) is that the Porsche CDC runs off of the CANBUS fiber optic network. much more $$costly than the average CDC from alpine or kenwood, et al, I know B/C I used to be in the car audio business. the factory option for the CDC is $650 or so, and in my experience to add in a factory option via Tequipment a good rule of thumb for most things under the $2K is to double the factory option. reason is, there is usually a LOT of labor involved to retrofit something, trim items excepted. lookign forward to a factory ipod integration though, yeah!

my truck didnt have the changer also but it was just plug in and it worked immediately. Got 1 on ebay for $400 (and 6 cds ). Open the passenger side panel when its dark and look for the red light (fiber optic), if thats there then you are good to go

What will be needed to install this? Or will it only be available as a factory option?

Not sure about the factory option, my dealership said you could order them and they were plug and play although they do have to install it.
