2011 Cayenne S or RRS Lux?

Hey guys!

So I'm a bit torn on what to do. I can get a minimally optioned Cayenne S, or the fully loaded RRS Luxury. I've considered a base Cayenne as well, with more options, but I really want the power of the S.

Is the Cayenne worth it, w/o all the bells and whistles?

Absolutely worth it. Just test drive a RRS and CS (preferably with PASM, a must have in my opinion) back to back. There are quite a few here who have no PASM and still love the way the 2011 Cayenne handles and performs.

I have the new V6 with the standard suspension and absolutely love it. I, too, could have opted for a minimally optioned CS, but chose to go with a nicely optioned 6 and have no regrets. I haven't driven the RRS in a few years, but I wasn't overly impressed with it back then, and neither was the wife (it was for her). However, they could be much better now? I definitely think the new Cayenne is worth the extra $, even without all the bells and whistles.

Have you already tested all three? The Cayenne definitely isn't about getting the most for your money. But do remember this, you asked the question to a Cayenne forum... I'd be surprised if anyone steered you to the RRS over a CS.

Good luck, these are good decisions to have!

C or CS is better than any RR.
RR's are great and I have had plenty but different vehicles. Unless you have someone to service your RR for you you'll loose your hair faster than normal stressing about all the time in the shop. Trust me.
A client I work with has 12 land rovers all different models and they are ALL problematic more so than comparable vehicles.
Different purpose cars, both good though.
If I could only pick one, cayenne.

I'm right there with you guys. I prefer the Porsche, but bang for the buck is the sticking point, hehe. I'm going to head to my dealer and build an S this weekend. See how it comes out!

Thanks!

they are both very nice cars.
I have driven both extensively and here is my input.

Cayenne (base to turbo)
-best interior/console in the bizness (cars or suv)
-nice design overall
-nice options but will cost you a lot
-DLR it's hot
-air suspesion + 22s will make ur car look HOT

RRS
-rides nice and fun car
-better interior choices (such as white or tan leather that is hot). Yes Cayenne has decent combos too but the they will nickle and dime you
-no pana roof
-classy but not as sporty

* you can't go wrong either one. But i would take the cayenne over RRS

Cayenne drives like a car and the Range drives like an SUV.

The current gen RRS is a huge improvement over the previous; however, there is no contest with the Cayenne (none). The interior while good in colors is not on par. The Nav on the Rover is utterly useless and the ride is choppy.

The RRS supercharged or autobiography or big daddy RR are all nice, esp the big daddy, but they aren't there yet in terms of quality. I make it a point to speak to the service department and during a visit to the Land Rover dealer in Illinois, the techician flat out told me not to buy one. I was still interested, and almost close to ordering but didn't started looking at the X5/X6 and the full sized RR, etc.

There are many cars that I would recommend, but the RRS is not one of them.

My girlfriend loves the RRS over the Cayenne, but that doesn't count; right!

I was in the very same situation just a couple of months or so ago. I went into the local RR dealership looking at a lightly used RRS or a new RRS. I was frowned upon and looked at as if I shouldnt be there looking at such a vehicle, I find that a lot actually when looking at higher end vehicles must be the fact that I look 14. That is a big deciding factor for me how I am treated when I walk into a dealership, RR's seem to have a very elitest air about them. That aside, I was looking for a vehicle that covered all bases. One space for the kids and towing capacity (Both RRS and CTT-S did this) Classy (Again both did this) Went like stink and handled well (CTT-S) I have a Cadillac Escalade so I really wanted something to act more like a car than an SUV. Choice was a no brainer for me. I still love the look of the Range Rover but over all the Porsche Cayenne TT-S was the better fit for me. Plus when I walk into my Porsche Dealer I dont get the you shouldnt be in here look, and that means a lot to me...
Good luck in your search

I can only tell you that my 2003 RR SC was a nightmare - sold it after 8 months....bought an 04 CTT. In fall of 07, the style of the vehicle lured me in and I ordered that year, a 2008 RR SC Stornoway Grey on Ivory with black piping. I put a discreet Overfinch body kit, exhaust and wheels on it and drove it trouble free for 3 years and 80,000 KM - I mean literally just oil changes. It was a delight to drive and a pleasure to look at and I never owned any vehicle that impressed people to comment - car nuts to housewives and all folks in between. I got strong money for it likely on its' unique look but it not expensive to own for 3 years. Now I am driving a new CTT which is a differant vehicle again. I am suspect when the body changes on the RR in 2014, I might be lured back again...don't get me wrong Cayenne is way cool fantastic...it is just differant. Sort of like fantastic jazz or fine classical music. My experience only.

my experience with my previous RRS, first year 2006 model, was flawless in terms of reliability.
My CS feels less rugged but sportier and definitely higher quality.

Cant go wrong with either.

Had same issues when purchasing car for future Mrs, after friends who had all owned recent RR sports advised me not to go there plus the seemingly affected airs of the dealers when compared to the familliar and friendly Porsche fellows, the decison was simple. Overall its a better product with peace of mind with purchase. My 2 cents.

While I'm a porsche guy a heart, and think the Cayenne is a great vehicle, I picked up a '11 RRS s/c a few months ago when faced with the same dilema. I too was always skeptical of the build quality, and have friends that had issues with theirs, but after driving mine for about 5k miles I can see why people keep going back to the brand despite their reputation for mechanical issues. It is a great truck.

The thing that sold me on the truck was the big revamp of the sport models post Tata acquisition. I knew Tata would be able to provide the capital necessary to get these vehicles running well, and so far my car has proven that to be the case. The new interior is stunning, the nav/entertainment center is much improved, it is incredibly quiet while driving....all in all it has converted me to a range rover fan. That said....it won't out handle a Cayenne, is seemingly more common than a Cayenne in some cities (if that bothers you), doesn't offer an electric tail gate closer, and has a horrendous resale value...but if you spend some time with one you will have difficulty in dismissing it as inferior to a Cayenne. For an all in one daily driver and weekend warrior I'd go with the Cayenne, and for a smooth/quiet daily driver with absolute comfort I'd go with the rr.

So, I surprised even myself today. I got a certfied '08 GTS fully loaded, with 21's. Has everything I wanted, and at what I paid for it, it was a no brainer. Man, so stoked right now. lol
