Odd behavior on Cayenne 2011 - Gears changing just after 1000 RPM!

So that happened three times so far:

I start the engine, put on drive and start moving forward. Somehow gears are shifted up just after 1000 RPM making it really hard to accelerate the car. Even after turning on the Sport mode I see the car engaging the 8 gear at 30 MPH.

When that happens I have to fully stop the car and start move forward again. No need to turn off/on or manually change gears. I also noticed that all three times this behavior happened just after I started the car, not during regular drive.

Any advices? Anyone else experienced this same issue?

Neither. it's a Standard Cayenne, V6 model.

I still repro this problem almost every day if after start the car I just "crawl" to a close by stop sign (50 meters away). Once I leave the intersection, I can barelly accelerate the car as the gears are shifted just above 1000 RPM even on sport mode until I do another full stop. Then everything is normal again. (and it won't come back until I turn off/on the car).

Any other owners experiencing this same issue? This problem doesn't happen if instead of slowly move to the stop sign I just accelerate and break right away, giving a chance for the car to rev up to 2000, 2500 RPM before the 1st stop.

My new 2012 V6 does the same thing if it is not in Sport mode. I find that it is in 6th gear at 25 MPH. I assume it is programed to save gas by keeping the RPMs low. If I turn on Sport mode, it will hold the gears to around 2,800 RPMs under normal driving. If I stomp on it, the RPMs will increase much higher in each gear. I think that this is normal. I do notice that in regualr mode, the car is in 8th gear by 40 MPH in city driving.

Mine does the described behavior even on Sport mode, if I don't accelerate it right away after turn on the engine. And it's worse than the normal operation of the non sport mode. It shift gears just above 1000 RPM making it impossible to drive....

Not my experience at all. It does upshift faster than other cars but as someone said it is to save fuel. If I drive it aggressively then it holds onto the lower gear longer. It has never been as painful as what you describe. I'd take it to the dealer and get checked out.
