Just drove my CTT through some moderate snow and ice. Nothing too fast but my stock 21's did the job well enough for me to still commute in this colorado snow.
I plan on getting some 20 inch wheels with a nice ice/snow tire as soon as I can find a set that makes sense.

Shame on whoever won't drive their cayenne in the snow. Ha. It's one of the best cone vehicles and safest with the propert winter setup. I speak from past experience with my GTS, that was phenomenal in the snow.

Too bad w00t stole my winter setup from me....
Wouldn't have cleared my ceramics either way.... So sad I don't have a proper winter setup on my poor CTT yet.... Soon very soon...

I have a question about this.

For Christmas and New Years, I rented a place up in Santa Fe, NM. Now My S came with the 21 Pirellis. I want to take my Cayenne on the trip, but I started double thinking it that maybe, the Summer tires would cause me issues.

What do you guys who live in areas that get cold and where it snows think about this. I can't justify buying tires and or rims for a vehicle that will see snow 1 week a year at most. Not to mention that on the 800+ mile drive there it will in the 50's and 60's and completely dry.

If it's a no go then I'll just trot my Denali with all weathers up there.

I just don't understand this post. Sorry.

I mean, you pay 90k for a car that you are letting sit. You drive an escalade, which is not anywhere near as fun to drive, and went and bought another pre-owned one when putting on the snow tires would have been a lot cheaper. These things are GREAT in snow. I drive mine year round. Matter of fact, this is my second 958 TT.

Drive the thing. Stop worrying about salt. IT IS MADE TO WITHSTAND SALT AND RAIN.

Jeez, I only thought I would see this stuff on Fchat.

Summer tires are just that.

I would not drive my CTT with yokos 21 inch if I knew I was going to be driving through the snow falling and accumulating.

If the main roads are cleared only the side streets being questionable I would consider that though.

Summer tires on snow don't stop or grip snow at all.
Even when accelerating summer tires are like driving a sports car with bald tires in the rain.
Understand?

I drove today when it was clear and blue sky. Yesterday I drove the RR with studded snows and my wife drove the escalade.
Can't wait until I get my snow tires for my CTT.

No, I think you misread my post.

I lived in Northern KY/Cincinnati for three years, so am very familiar with his conditions. I am not questioning using 21 inch summer rubber in winter (hell, I don't want to use my Yoko's in the summer, let alone ice/snow). I am questioning why is he afraid to drive the thing. I think it is crazy to have bought another used Escalade when you could put on 18 inch, 19 inch, or 20 inch all seasons or dedicated winter rubber and been fine. I love my Cayenne. I am a convert. I had a loaded Yukon Denali loaner for the past week as my CTT was getting serviced....God how I was glad to see my car back.

Just seems crazy to me. I wasn't gonna go ahead with my Ferrari order because I didn't want to put miles on it. Then I realized how stupid that was. Drive it. Enjoy you. You could die tomorrow for all you know, and I, for one, don't want to look back and say "I should have...".

I think Jace's post #19 was in response to my question in post in #17. Since no one is quoting each other it is ha little hard to follow.

If I'm wrong about that my apologies.

I was replying to Vince.

We drive all our cars in every condition, even an associates phantom in ALL conditions it's capable of. Cars meant to be driven. I agree.

Even if my Ferrari was AWD I'd be driving it on snow.

I agree with this logic 100%. I really do. However, I think the truck is just beautiful, and hate to think of it getting all nasty by driving it in the elements.

To some of you it may be less of a car. I guess to me, it is like a big 911, and I treat it as such. I have an Audi R8 also, and could not imagine using it in the snow. Eventhough it's AWD also. Call me crazy, and I most likely am.

However, that being said, I would love to meet up with a fellow Cayenne and Ferrari owner.... Well, let me say that different. You have a Ferrari, I have some Corvettes and a R8.

Yeah that's what I figured. Best to leave the Cayenne at home, as the combo of dirt roads, snow, and freezing temps probably aren't the best conditions for the tires.

I was hoping that maybe it wouldn't be that scenario. Thanks for the solid advice.

Take the Denali to Santa Fe, just to be safe. No way would you want summer tires there that time of year. Santa Fe is at 7000 ft. elevation, and at the south end of the Rockies. You can basically bank on snow.
