Winter Driving

All,

I need a little advice. I currently have my wife in an Escalade for all of our winter driving. We park the Cayenne in the bad weather.

The truth of the matter is that in one year, we have only driven it 3000 miles. She drive a convertible in the spring/summer and tends to just drive the Cadillac when its not nice out.

I am thinking of selling the Caddie to buy another project for me. I have her blessing, but just can't stand to see that Porsche get salt etc all over it.

Am I just crazy. Its a 2011 Cayenne S. Watched some videos, they look to do great in the snow. Should I just go for it?

Why not buy a "trasher SUV" that is good in the snow so you don't need to worry about the Cayenne? Buy a Toyota 4runner or a Pathfinder 4wd? They are cheap enough (30-40k), rather than trash up a 90k car :-)

Frank69m brings up a great point.
I do the same for driving up to Tahoe. I have the CTT for around town and driving up to Tahoe in the Summer but in the winter I use a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have yet to find a vehicle that handles better in snow and ice conditions.

Currently we have an Escalade that I let her beat around it. However, the miles are getting a tad high, and was just thinking about selling it.

The Cayenne just sits, and sometimes it seems like a waste of a vehicle. When we bought it, it was going to be her DD. I liked it too much for that and bought a used Escalade...

However, she drives the Caddie to the store and work in the rain/winter season, and she drives her Beetle Vert in the summer. Takes the Escalade to the store.

The Cayenne has no seat time. Having it for a full year now, and only driving 3k miles, I feel like I am wasting a great car.

Why have it if you're not going to drive it. So what if it gets dirty. You can always wash it. Drive it and enjoy it!

I'll ALWAYS go for the drive it option. It's a fantastic 4WD SUV that, with snow tires, would be immensely satisfying to drive in the snow and bad weather. Drive it and enjoy it - that's what it's for! You only live once...

I bought my CS to drive it! It's awesome in the snow, especially with my Pirelli Ice and Snows.

I know what you mean... Out here on the left coast, I'm concerned about driving my '12 CSH this winter as it sometimes gets down into the 40's! Why it almost rained to other day...

it's this a joke? drive the car and stop worrying. it's a CAR. it's meant to get messy and its 4wd system is great. wash it when you feel like it. seriously surprised by this post. most modern cars can handle salt just fine.

Drive the cayenne. It's safer and better in every way in every driving weather condition no matter the model.
It's just a car, whether it's 50k or 200k.
Buy them and drive them. Then clean then and wax them.
Store collectibles not a cayenne over a escalade. We have an escalade in the stable as well and I always drive the cayenne over the escalade in any condition UNLESS we have to haul a couch or kids with play stuff.
Think you need your priorities adjusted. kidding.
Drive drive drive.
Sell the escalade and call it a day.

I have 21's on the Turbo. Don't think I'm going to be swapping them out, so looks like I'll be doing some minimum snow driving unfortunately Next year I'm going to toss some snow shoes on her but for now it looks like I'll be cruising around in the H1 again. Last years huge snow fall (in Chicago) was a blast to plow through while nobody was on the road.

Back to the OP, why worry about salt? The only salt I'd worry about is if you go into a black interior with oodles of snow and salt on your shoes and let it melt and go all over the place. So buy some rubber mats/weathertech mats.

Only live once!!!! Bought it to drive not look at!

Drive the Cayenne during the winter and if it gets messy, Wash It. It would be awful not to use it, especially considering that it is built for snow, ice, mud, dirt, ect...... They do get snow in germany and there was extensive testing of the Cayenne on snow and ice.

To one of the above posts... I have 21's also. However, I have 18's with all seasons too.

I bought a new-er Escalade today. Just can't drive the thing in the snow and to the store.

I did put clear corners in it though.
