" Expect the same 240 horsepower 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel engine found in Cayenne Diesels sold overseas to be fitted to local versions. This setup is good for a fuel economy of 32.7 mpg on the slightly less conservative European combined cycle and 0-60 mph times of around 7.6 seconds. "

In October 2011, Team Longest Drive, consisting of Jan Kalmar, Oskar Slingerland and Campbell Fraser set themselves a challenge to drive the longest continuous distance on land along a line of latitude travelling across Eurasia. They launched from Pointe de Corsen – the most western part of Continental France on the morning of Friday 13th October and finished at Krasny Partizan Lighthouse near the Far East Russian city of Sovetskaya Gavan arriving 5 days 21 hours and 14 minutes later. Both the starting point and end point were at the 48th degree line of latitude. The car was a Porsche Cayenne Turbo Diesel.

I really don't see the point of this vehicle, yeah it may get 28-30 mpg(but Diesel cost quite a bit more), it's slower, has considerably less HP and just a bit more torque than an S.
The gods only know how many different models Porsche now makes, each for a purpose.
I have a 911 daily driver with plenty of go and another 911 for the track with even more go if the nut behind the wheel were more proficient. I am not looking for the Cayenne to be a track vehicle.
The Diesel Cayenne interests me for several reasons
I am looking for an SUV to tow my track car and a boat. Also intend to do considerable off road driving. The additional torque is important to me for all of these.
I am also looking to drive out beyond where I can expect to get good premium gas. The increased mpg is important as I do not expect there to be as many gas stations as are available in the USA.
Want a vehicle that can carry four adults in comfort, something my 911s can not.
I have been spoiled with the way Porsche's handle, not just for speed. Just got rid of our E39, it could carry four adults in comfort but it was also a maintenance nightmare. The one E39 cost more to maintain than both 911s!

its probably got a better HP/weight ratio than the 955 v6. Also it has a considerable amount more torque. 7.6s for 0-60mph is good enough for an SUV. Furthmore a simple ECU tune should make this thing considerably quicker. The same engine in the Q7 TDI goes from 240hp -> 280hp with tuning alone. That said, if i really wanted to go fast, i'd do it in a sports car.
I can not imagine that Porsche Cars North America would not bring it into Canada too. Check with your local dealer to see if they have any info. Mine said they expect to start taking orders in April.
The Diesel is definitely coming to Canada. I know because I have ordered one (in Toronto) and put down my deposit. I ordered it in December and was apparently #2 on the list for that dealer (Downtown Fine Cars). My dealer told me that builds for Canada will start in September 2012. $5k is required as a downpayment.
