GPS issue

The gps in our cayenne decided to go crazy today. Map shows we are going off road, and deviated more as we drive further. By the days end it's showing we are in another city 60 miles away. Looks like it's not getting the proper satellite signal.

Anybody know if there is a diagnostic menu to see how many satellites it's seeing?

If you go into the "car" menu and look in options, you can make it show the number of satellites as well as altitude and a few other things not usually displayed. I made my personal menu lines show altitude, satellites, fuel economy, and travel time for example.

Thanks AJRDU.

Sure enough, it shows 0 satellites. Off to the dealer I go.

Glad to help. I hope it's an easy fix. Sounds like a bad GPS antenna. I'd be interested to see what they tell you.

OK this is an interesting one.

This morning I took the wife's personal belongings out of the car, getting ready to drop the car off at the dealer. All of a sudden the GPS got 8 satellites! It turns out one of the thing I removed was the c0ckpit drive recorder, which I ran power cord from passenger footwell up A-pillar. Apparently that is where the GPS antenna goes through, and some type of interference caused the GPS signal to go bad. Put the recorder power back, GPS would immediately drop to 4 and then 0.

[EDIT] Apparently it's the drive recorder itself, not the line nor radar detector. I moved it away from rearview mirror and problem went away.

Wow. Nice to know. I'm glad it wasn't something happening with the car itself. Amazing, though, how sensitive electronics can (or have to be) to interference.

And, in 40 years we'll realize all these electronics, along with your cell, bluetooth and any other wireless device causes cancer :-)

LOL! And just to think how many sensors on the Cayenne are emitting wireless stuff... It's like sitting in a radiation room!
