Question Diesel with Turbo front bumper

Long time lurker first time poster

I have a year end Diesel coming in but I haven't put the final touches on what I want yet. Here in Taiwan the tax is ridiculously high. Just to give you an idea, my "spec'ed" out Diesel came out to NT$3,500,000 or roughly USD$119,000 not including other applicable insurance fees etc.. And this is without air suspension/PASM, plain stereo, standard seats and interior, and very few goodies. I did opt for the Turbo II wheels and front/back skid plates so that brought up the price considerably.

I've been seeing a lot of you guys changing your v6/cs front bumpers into turbo bumpers and my question is: can Porsche factory/my dealer do this for me as an option or is this conversion only an aftermarket thing? My dealer is some newbie and can't give me a answer. He is waiting to hear from Porsche HQ

Thanks in advance for any input.

here in the states you can pick up the front end from several Porsche parts dealers and have either a shop or your dealer install it, i think the bumper runs about $1500 USD unpainted. I don't think it would be a factory option so you'll have to see if you can find one after the car is delivered.

With all the options for the choosing which Porsche is known for, it is surprising a bumper conversion is not among them.

As far as I know you cannot option this from Porsche. However they should be able to order all of the necessary parts for you and do the install before you pick the car up from them. Note that if you do this mod you will lose your daytime running lights unless you also change to the turbo headlights.

Thanks for that headlights info SlipR35. It seems the price of my Diesel is slowly approaching Ferrari figures if it were bought in the U.S.

Here's the list of items that you need to order from Porsche if you are going to do the front bar change. I did the full conversion on mine including the turbo bar, bonnet and headlights. Note that the list below doesn't include the turbo bonnet or the wiring change for the turbo headlights:

  • Front BBar cover (need painting)
  • LH & RH headlamp washer covers (need painting)
  • LH & RH Grilles
  • LH & RH Grille Backing Covers
  • Centre Grille
  • LH & RH Led Lights
  • LH & RH Fog lamp Moulds
  • LH Grille covers x 2 (need painting if gloss black is wanted)
  • RH grille covers x 2 (need painting if gloss black is wanted)
  • Centre Reinforcement bar
  • Centre Reinforcement bar Foam
  • Centre Radiator Shroud

*** LH & RH Intercooler Shrouds need to be modified. ( Turbo shrouds are different size) ***

*** RH & LH Headlights also are different, & wiring modification is necessary to link BBar LED's. ***

SlipR35,

I'm doing a S to Turbo bumper swap and was wonder if we actually need the Centre Reinforcement bar? Is it different between the Turbos and non-turbos?

Is the bar you have ob your list #27 in this pic? http://sonnenporscheoemparts.com/med.../6/6941010.gif

Question:

If you leave the headlights as is do you still need a new loom to connect with the led daytime running lights or does the existing loom plug in to them no problem? I'm told that without the Turbo headlights the daytime running light strips become blinkers. Is that what you found?

The turbo/gts led bar has two sets of lights (yellow blinkers and white parking lights). If you swap to the turbo wiring loom in the bumper or modify the wiring, then the white lights will operate as the parking lights. The pinout for the blinkers are the same for both the turbo and non turbo.

What kind of cost is associated with this all in? I know someone said 1500 USD for the bumper, and thats fine. But what about the other parts....what do they cost?? Someone please chime in!!

We will leave out installation costs, because a good friend owns a reputable body shop. I would also like to know approx how long does this take to get done? How many hours of labor (don't worry about labor cost).

Is that the one you used? If so, how is the fitment when installing? I know sometimes the major issue with these things is that it looks all nice and dandy on the pictures, but getting them to FIT on install is a major pain in the ***. The quality is not that of OEM, but hopefully these guys have a product that is quick and easy. I'll wait for you to let us know.

thanks you very much!

Yeh i saw that a while back and it looks like they have kitted up the conversion well. They did say that the DRL's don't work tho and become turning blinker lights instead and this to me is the main fallback of the exercise. It's good to have everything working as it's supposed to. That's why i was hoping someone here has found a way around that problem without having to go to too much expense. I've optioned our diesel S with the headlights with black surrounds including Porsche Dynamic Light system (PDLS) so was hoping to avoid having to go to more expense by getting the turbo/gts headlights which have the 4 small LEDs in them. Also not sure of the cabling changes if required.

I did my conversion and the fitment is perfect. I also got the LED bars to work as DRLS
