BMW X6M vs Cayenne Turbo
BMW X6M vs Cayenne Turbo
I thought I was going to get another cayenne turbo but just drove a BMW X6M and was quite impressed. The vehicle seems more engaging to drive with better exhaust tone . Is there anyone who has had the X6M and any thoughts? thanks
Many differences between them. I initially compared the x5m and x6m and x50 VS the CTT; in the end I chose the CTT.
I liked the customization of the Porsche vs the BMW.
The exhaust note of my CTT is equally that of the x6m, I just can't hear it because of my insulated glass.
I like the two tone seats and leather of the CTT.
I like that the rear seats slide forward in the CTT.
I like having a spare in the CTT.
I like the ceramic break option of the CTT and having 8 speeds vs the x6m having 6 from what I remember.
Burmester vs x6m audio.
The google maps updating and maps are AWESOME in the x6M.
Voice text to the car in the BMW are a nice touch.
Interior ****pit seating and slopes dash in the CTT was a pleaser for me.
I like the air suspension in the CTT 4 wheel, vs just the rear in the x6m and not that many adjustments.
I think the x6m seems more engaging bc I feel it's more raw of a vehicle and the CTT seems more refined.
Both are great vehicles maybe I'll add an x5 or 6 M in my stable in time in addition too not replacing.
Must say that comparing them is hard to do because the x6M maxed is a $100k vehicle and the CTT is well over $150k; that's another 1/2 a vehicle more

It depends what kind of a person you are. For some, having a cayenne turbo is just a status symbol, that you have a Porsche Turbo SUV. Although, I agree with the poster above, that the Cayenne has a lot of more options to offer, and the interior is a lot better looking than the X6M. If you want to race and have that menacing sporty look, of that of the x6m, then go with the X6M. If you want more luxury and status, and have a more refined car with a better interior then buy the Cayenne. The exhaust note is louder on the x6m than the cayenne turbo.
There is a premium of at least 25k on the Cayenne, it depends if you really like the Cayenne 30k more than the x6m.

My take, in short is X5M drives more sport car like, but you really have to punch it to feel it. It take some muscle to get full feel of the car, much like a raw sport car. On the other spectrum, Cayenne is so comfortable but when you look down, you realized the car is going triple digits. The proformance is so effortless and easy by the car... not by the driver.
Can't go wrong either one, though the Cayenne cost more, but both worth every penny. If I had to choose... I think Mon, Wed & Fri is Cayenne, Tue & Thur is X5M

Unless they have changed the X5/6M drastically, my 2010 is not at all like these descriptions. Mostly, it feels Heavy. Only when you engage M Mode and Sport Mode and are going at least 10 mph, does it feel fast. The CTT feels quick from a standstill. The handling is radically different. It's been said before but it bears repeating because it's true, the X5M has significantly more body roll and just does not feel as composed or competent when handling railroad tracks, speed breakers, and curves in the road. The exhaust note is pretty anemic also unless you switch on M and Sport and of course it resets to off every time the car is turned off. Interestingly, the one area that everyone concurs on, the Porsche's superior Interior, was not a big selling point for me. I don't mind the BMW interior at all, and the technology although not quite up to the Cayenne is certainly adequate. It's all about the feel behind the wheel appeal and Porsche simply did it right.
One other thing to consider, the X6 has been out since 2008 and BMW is usually on a 6 year design cycle. They're gonna revamp that car probably in 2014, whereas Porsche just revamped the Cayenne in 2011. I think Porsche has a longer design cycle as well, at least been the first gen and 2nd gen cayenne was what, 8 years?
Close call but the CTT was chosen by MT over the X5M as a comparison. The X6M is not really the same type of vehicle IMHO. I was torn between the two when replacing my CTT with the new one but landed back on the CTT for a number of reasons, many of them listed in the previous posts. IMO the BMW product is too similar between models and just a little "too plain" and vanilla envelope. They are not as exclusive if that is a concern and it's difficult to detect the M vs. non M which makes them even more "common" and non-distinctive. I also favored the interior FAR MORE over the BMW because it is far more "****pit" like. The new CTT will be "new" for several more years compared to the X5 also... Then there's performance and technology and I think the P-car edges the competition out (assuming you get those options in your CTT). All that added up to choosing the CTT for me.

I originally thought about getting an X5M and it would have only been 10-15k more than my CS which wasn't too big of a deal to me. In the end, I got the CS because:
1) I don't need as much power as the X5M offers
2) My friends kept telling me about all the electrical issues they've had with their X5. It isn't just one person, I know two people with newer X5's, plus a couple of others who have 5 series (new one) who've had major issues.
3) There are just too many freakin X5's on the road. I see that and every soccer mom in their Mercedes ML around here.
