Gas prices is killing me!
Hybrid Gas Savings!
David
Not bragging guys, but for informational purposes - My 2012 hybrid is consistently averaging 24.5 mpg with mixed city/highway. On short drives with a real easy foot, I can get 35-40 mpg. Coming out of a 2006 Cayenne S, I have reduced a whole fill up from my budget on a monthly basis.

How long to pay off Hybrid surcharge?
Here is what the Government says you can expect to save at 15000 miles per year. About 1500 bucks.

Either way. $1500 or 2K is ok with me. Maybe it wont take 10 years to makeup the 7K hybrid surcharge after all.

That's a great calculator. Thanks for sharing. I drive 20K miles a year. You can slide the "personalize" slider to 20K miles it goes up to about a 2K per year savings. I am also averaging 24 combined mpg so its better than the "conservative" EPA 21 mpg estimate. I've been told the EPA cant yet account for Porsche cars with the stop/start/coasting technology and therefore their mpg ratings are extra low.

Hybrid Gas Savings
1. Trade for new one
2. Buy extended warranty
3. Hope for the best

But then the clock for the $7k increase resets, so there would be no financial gain...
Why don't you guys get a sedan that gets better mileage? There are tons of luxury cars that get over 30 mpg. SUV sucks gas and you really don't need the high up seating position and the little room that Cayenne provides.
Also, who ever said Fisker Karma makes sense is an idiot. It's the only electric that doesn't make sense. It gets around 20 mpg in real life and breaks all the time.
One thing I agree is the gas prices in LA. It's the highest I've seen around the country.
Of all technologies, I think CNG is being overlooked. It burns clean and we need to be able to recharge it from our garage (currently not possible due to contamination in household gas line). Compare to electric, hybrid and diesel, it is another promising and proven platform that no one is investing in except fleet vehicles.

Must admit... I will NEVER buy a Hybrid nor an electric car. It's diesel for my DDriver at 40 + miles per gallon without anything to go wrong in the drive train / engine compartment and a gas monster, loud and ferocious for the fun side..

well, keep paying over a $100 at the pump then. i just don't get the allure of driving around on towering vehicles i guess. more of a sports car person here.
I used to drive a CNG in Europe - years ago - actually a Pontiac Esprit V8. Natural gas indeed is easy, clean, I had a switch to revert back to gasoline at any time. Engines typically last longer because the fuel is dry (so I was told then ) and I can tel you the oil remained clean much longer than with gasoline. You loose about 10-15% of driving range when compared with gasoline but it is way cheaper too.
