Initial First Impressions
Initial First Impressions
Picked up a White Cognac/Espresso CTT 24 hours ago.
Will try to post Pics and some better thought out 1st Impressions soon.
The size of the car is a touch smaller than I remembered and I like that.
It is simply beautiful inside and out. A White Cayenne with full OEM Body Kit is my idea of a perfect Porsche but that is obviously subjective. The Cognac/Espresso Natural Leather Interior with Extended Olive Wood trim seems to be universally admired.
Coming out of a BMW X5M these initial impressions are heavily colored by comparisons:
The Nav system is way better making more obvious use of traffic to reroute.
It also is easier and faster to input data. The Burmester is a very fine audio experience with the Source material critical for showing off its capabilities. On the recommendation of a Poster whose name escapes me, I bought several DVD audio discs and they are terrific with the Burmester.
The seats are the best I've ever sat in. Being on the slimmer side, I feel like I'm swimming in most seats, even ones with adjustable bolsters. These really fit. Looking at the headrest I thought it would be uncomfortable (prefer the kind that are not as "safe" that support your neck rather than head). Was surprised at the comfort level.
Had the opportunity to drive to my girlfriend's house yesterday who lives an hour out of town. It was a perfect chance to experience expressways, curvy undulating pavement, and rough dirt roads. The Cayenne excelled at all three. The only area that the BMW could compete was on the expressway....clearly the least challenging of the three. The more I ask of the car, the more I like it.
Speaking of asking a lot, my Salesman was adamant about not babying the Cayenne. His background is in Engineering and has built engines, besides selling Porsches for the last 20 years. He strongly recommended driving it hard right out of the gate (properly warmed up of course) and being on the aggressive side with ceramic brakes too...avoiding only panic stops. In addition he scoffed at the idea of changing the oil after 1,000 miles which I have always adhered to. I have read so many conflicting opinions on breaking in a car..that I don't know who's right. Decided to take his advice. If nothing else, it's freeing not to have to worry about specific break in procedures!
More to follow....

Congrats,
looking forward to your pics. I did a lot of test driving the X5M, because I wanted to love it and save all that money, but it did not compare to the CTT in anything that was important to me.
Funny you mention it is smaller then you remember because it is longer and larger inside then the previous model, but feels smaller and weighs 400lbs less.
Where do you find these DVD music discs?
Highly advise the EVOMSit piggy back tune and some sharkweks bypass pipes. The pipes add some aggressive non-annoying exhaust note plus an extra 30hp/tq while decreasing turbo lag. The tune will give an additional 80hp/tq, and you will be stuck with a 600+ hp monster.

zzz: I enjoyed the X5M but it less refined in every way. The handling and the ride especially when challenged with pot holes and speed breakers is far superior in the Porsche.
My Sister has a Lexus SUV which always seemed dwarfed by the BMW. The Cayenne is slightly larger but it's not dramatic. The X5M is about 700 lbs heavier and honestly feels more than that, especially when cornering. With PDCC the car simply begs to be challenged on those cloverleaf highway exits/entrances.
Would love to drive a CTT with some mods before changing anything. I like the acceleration and the exhaust note as it came out of the Factory. If anyone is passing through Atlanta let me know.
DVD Audio is tricky business. It may have gained a slight popularity a few years back, but kind of faded away, because hardly any current music comes out this way.
I looked on Amazon and some other sites and found 8 or 10 titles that were reasonably priced. Best of the bunch so far are Toots and the Maytals and Women on Top (not a bad title either)

Highly recommended. My dealer recommended it to me and they installed the tune & pipes before I picked up the vehicle.
Congrats Vitaman
+1 on your salesman's "break-in" advice
I picked mine up last April at the factory in Leipzig and drove it 3000 miles on the Autobahn, full blast from day 1(always once properly warmed up,of course)
My first miles were even at the Porsche driving school on Porsche's Leipzig track<and I was the only Cayenne, amidst 4s and gt3s(held my own on long sweeping turns and strait lines)
I also drove it pretty hard on some Twisty French country roads
Almost 5000 miles of very "spirited" European driving...with my CT performing flawlessly for all of them,as well as for the 3000 miles i have driven since back in Florida
I would say I have definitely gotten my money's worth out of the PCCBs!
Their stopping power and bite never ceases to impress me
You definitely don't stomp on the PCCBs...instead "feathering" and easing into them
I had bought about 50 DVD-As for the trip:some better than others..a with the better ones, the Burmester shows what it has:like you were there and such an impression of space..but it also does a great job with well recorded regular DVDs or CDs(A live GD album recorded in Philly 89 sounds amazingly clear and crisp)
As far as the bass...Ohh my!
+1 on Toots,and KD Lang's "Invincible Summer",Allman Brothers "Live at the Fillmore East",GD"American Beauty",Charlie Byrd+Laurindo Almeida,Earl Hines+Jimmy Rushing"Blues and Things",Miles Davis"Kind of Blue,Beatles"Love",Sheryl Crow"The Globe Sessions"Natalie Merchant"Tigerlily',Dennis Brown"Anthology"
As far as mods..I highly recommend you wait(as I have been excitedly doing
)for the GIAC ecu flash,it is the most comprehensive ecu "tune" (almost) available.it's suppose to add about 100hp

Steph: As I mentioned there are two sides to this debate, and in the past I have always followed the manual precisely. Can't say that I've found any tangible benefits.....my X5M brakes squealed like a pig and the engine wasn't extraordinarily powerful. Maybe I avoided a piston pitfall by easing it in. Have no idea.
I will say that Salesman was convincing and he had nothing to gain.

They build such a nice car ...
...so we can drive it

Awesome cayenne. Enjoy!!!
