Of course the Turbo is more desirable, but I have a few questions for those in the know (no flaming please, I'm just curious to get these answers):
a) is maintenance much higher? Especially long term as I plan to keep it 5+ years
b) is mileage a lot worse on the Turbo? I'm not talking magazine figures, but maybe some real world figures if anyone has experience with the two
c) is the Turbo's overall experience THAT much better than an S? Especially in an SUV? A Turbo seems over the top to some people
d) Since the vehicle will be purchased used, given where both 2011's have depreciated, the Turbo's seem to be the better 'value'. Would this be true?
e) anyone get a Turbo and wish they got an S? or vice versa?

I got 19mpg on average commuting to work which is mostly hwy but a little in town driving. That is averaging 80mph.
They both have the same 4.8L V8, so mileage is very similar I would assume.
The turbo's make a big difference and for less then 4k you can add 2 mods and get another 100hp/tq without any loss to your mileage, other then you will get on it more.
No one who gets a TT will wish they got an S, the other way around..... maybe.
Maintenance should be similar which is expensive as all porsches are. But they are also very reliable as most porsches are.

Having almost purchased an S and bought a Turbo instead. No, I do not regret it at all. I love the Turbo. If the Turbo is within reach financially, it's a no brainer. If I drive normal and on the highway, I can get an average of 20+mpg. If you're driving long distances on the highway, you'll probably get 22-23mpg. If you drive spirited and launch on on-ramps, then you will get 15mpg.

The Cayenne, if you didn't know you were in it, feels more like a sportscar than a lot of sportscars. So if that is your thing, then you'll love the Turbo. If you only want a people mover with some prestige/luxury (assuming that's why you want a Porsche), then get the S. I can't comment on the costs of maintaining it yet as I haven't brought it in for service yet. But I'm sure they will be close to the same.

Totally agree with No.92 - I was actually looking at an S after owning the previous gen but at the last minute changed to a Turbo. One of the best decisions I ever made. All I know is that I'll never be able to below a Turbo with future models now!
those are great points - and I'm hoping used prices compress the difference between the S and the Turbo.

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I cannot believe how good this car is to drive and thats comparing to my V12 Aston. Unbelievable feat of engineering and beautiful to look at too. If the budget isn't an issue, it's worth every single extra penny. Either way, you have a great dilemma!
are you kidding? Compared to a V12 Vantage? obviously very different cars, but that's quite impressive to know that they can be compared!

I kid you not! Yes very different but in some ways I get a bigger kick flying round bends in a SUV that defies all laws of gravity. I guess it all depends what sort of mode I am in as to what I want to drive but I really am in awe of the CT.

I am about to replace my 2009 GTS with a low mileage 2011 Turbo. What two mods are you referring to, I assume you are talking about software tuning the ECU and an exhaust system? I went with a Softronics tune on my 2007 911 TT and was stunned by the added power and torque; totally changed the nature of the car. Thanks!
Tunes are more efficient when paired with a better exhaust..I have chosen TUBI,which is an Italian company in the heart of Ferrari country
I also have BMC air filters
My pepper now breathes and sounds much better

Thanks - GIAC sounds like a good option, I was happy with the Softronics tune on the 997 TT but they are a very small company. Did you have someone in Southwest Florida you can recommend do the work, I get down there every winter - might be an option.
