Reliability question
Reliability question
Hi there
I bought one of the first Cayennes about 10years ago (the 2003 model), which was a reliability nightmare.
20 visits to the dealer in less than three years, eventually won a lemon lawsuit (which i had initiated upon recommendation of the dealer (!)).
I switched then to a Mercedes GL450, but it is time for a new car.
I love the new Cayenne - would you have any thoughts on reliability, unscheduled visits to the shop etc??
THanks for your help

Compared to Cayenne, my new X5 50, which was sold two months ago, had several minor issues in the first 5000 miles: defective sunroof seal, improper installation of the front seat liners, emission error due to defective battery, lots of rattles, etc.
My '99 merc amg E55 (correction after I dug out the old manual) used to have "repeated window regulator failures and the infamous exploding harmonic balancer, which until recently Merc usa has finally agreed to warranty and reimburse the part. Well, they were nothing that I can't live with - it's German and it's going to have minor issues. Look on the bright side, the reliability is definitely going to be better than the Italians.

My 08 was reliable.
I took mine over the years for:
speaker/door rattling often
fuel line recall
some aluminum trim turning hazy white
drive shaft
carpet peeling up
fuel injector (part failure out of warranty)
rear glass hatch kept failing/wouldn't close right, until the service guy taught me the trick

I think I read somewhere that earlier models of Cayenne were built by VW, which resulted in poor reliability. Eventually Porsche took a lot of the stuff in house and has improved since then. The current 958's are build by Porsche in Porsche plants, so I am hoping for great long term reliability as well.
But now VW owns Porsche, who know what will happen next...
