Cayenne Diesel 'ooomph'
Cayenne Diesel 'ooomph'
I am thinking about buying either a Cayenne V6, Cayenne S (love it, but $$$) or now as an alternative the Diesel
I have driven non-Porsche Diesels as rent-a-cars plenty of times in Germany and loved them, but I am worried about 'only' 240hp.
If you currently own a Cayenne Diesel or have driven one, what are your thoughts on accelleration from zero (especially compared to the V6); what are your impressions on accelleration on higher speeds, such as 40-60 or overtaking speeds (should be a lot more than the V6, how is it compared to a CS?

400+lbs of torque is not too shabby
For reference. I also have a Jetta Sportswagon TDI with 140 HP and 236 ft torque and I can tell you that this car pulls off the line really hard. Surprisingly hard. It also has a well designed 6 speed box with short 1-2 gears which, I am sure, contributes to the get-up-and-go feel.
the number is pretty impressive, but does not mean a lot to me on paper.
Did you drive the Diesel and do you have a comparison to a S or V6 (love your Turbo btw)
I'm no expert but I drove them all
, the diesel pulls very hard until 3200~3500 rpm, feels weak after that.
Torque is plenty down low, more than enough under normal driving conditions.
I would take a Diesel over a V6 hands down.

I am currently driving an X5 diesel and it is effortless power when I need it. May consider the CD for my next vehicle if I don't get a Panamera.

I have a 2012 Diesel and have been deeply impressed with the low end go, and the whole car in general. I traded a series 1 V6 Cayenne and there is absolutely no question the diesel outperforms it as a DD around town - i even think the exhaust note is much better! Can't say anything about the current V6 as i haven't driven it, but the diesel is my pick between it and the V8 CS. The only thing I'd miss is the v8 exhaust note. The fuel economy is great, and proves you really can have your cake and eat it too!
