Contemplating 2011 Cayenne Turbo
Contemplating 2011 Cayenne Turbo
I am seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on a CT. I classically have not been an SUV enthusiast but after a test drive I may have changed my mind.
This would be my daily driver and was interested in anyone's thoughts. Lot's of options out there and am also considering a new M5.

But no matter how amazing the CTT seems to be, if I had to put all my money on which car was more fun, I would bet on the M5 every day of the week.

It's an all around great ride, that I am happier with everyday
I do really like the CTT. Seems very comfortable and liked the appointments. I have found a great deal on a 2011 with sport package.
It never fails to amaze me how much values of nice cars fall in a year or two. I can grab the one I mentioned for 95K. It has 4k on the clock fairly loaded minus panoramic sun roof.
On top of all this, you get Porsche reliability which is, according to JD Power & Associates, #1 in this category. At least it was in 2010. Plus, IMO, all BMWs are kinda bland looking with the boxy look. The CTT is gorgeous with its lines.
Am I biased? Sure most probably. :P

My bad. Correction. I thought he said X5. But either way, I still feel that the CTT is a ton of fun. Spec-wise the M5 is only 0.1s faster than a CTT but I would think the CTT can hold the twisties better with PASM, PTV, and AWD. The M5 is only 300lbs lighter than a CTT so it's not like it's much lighter.

Daaaang...I need a new job..or a second...or third. I do cuz, I want a stable like kw911TT's. My stable includes my '11 CS and my Trek road bike. :') Bam!!
All kidding aside, If you are like me, you will truly dig the Cayenne. Like you, I really wanted to dial-in to an M5. After laboring over the decision, I pulled the trigger on a CS. I have never regretted it one sec.
Good luck in your decision.

Overall I would still take a CTT over an M5, but to think its faster is just not true.
The CTT without an ecu tune and some bypass pipes is just plainly underwhelming. The turbo spool takes forever and if your not at the right gear or it does not kick down to the right gear at WOT, it just is disappointing.
Must get Burmester, and PDCC at the very minimum. Many other options are important also but these are must have IMO.
I agree the new CTT is an amazing SUV and can not be matched in some areas, handling. I had a highly modded CTT at over 600hp/tq, and would never kid myself that it could keep up with a sport sedan in the twisties. The CTT is 0-60 in 4.5 sec even with mods, the M5 does it in 3.7sec I think .8 seconds faster is huge. Plus the M5 has all the torque from way down low on the rev range and does up to 25psi stock. Also the M5 will have all the newest technology for handling and suspension and will destroy the CTT in the twisties. It will also have a smoother ride when not in sport mode, the CTT rides kind of harsh when on 21" wheels, but looks silly with 20" wheels.

The 2011+ CTT does 0-60 in 4.4s with no mods according to Porsche. With an ECU upgrade from say GIAC that gives another 75hp or so, I would think you could get down below 4s.
Regarding twisties, it'd be hard to argue about that without actually trying it. However, there was a youtube review of the CTT that pitted it against a 997 911S and it was only slower around a track by about 1.2s. Pretty impressive considering the CTT is so much heavier and is an SUV!
Edit: Found the video and this is a CTT with the 21" Turbo II wheels.

Hmm... Not sure where you're getting the numbers, but here is the spec page from BMW that shows 0-60 in 4.2 or 4.3 depending on which variant:

You are right porsche did claim 4.4 seconds but many magazine test only got 4.5, as I did with my VBOX before and after mods. The increase in HP from the modifications will mostly increase 60-130mph times or quarter mile times. The 0-60 times are not affected very much by incrase in HP.
All the magazine articles that tested the M5 got around 3.7 seconds. The magazine are usually much faster times then what the manufacturers estimate, except for the CTT.
For examply the PTT was stated by porsche to do 4 second 0-60 but the mags got 3.3 and some got 3.5, big freakin difference.
I saw that video comparing the C4S to the CTT, that was a big factor in me buying one. It is very impressive.

I have read this post before and I could've sworn I read an X5 not an M5.
You guys are comparing apples to oranges ! OP, for daily driving I would go with the CT and that's what I got after I sold the M3.
