The Cayenne is a high performance luxury vehicle that looks like a SUV, it was never meant to be an utility car.

BS
My 2015 Cayenne S is outperforming my 4Runner in every respect. I use it to tow, carry stuff on the roof rails, go off road and other general truck like stuff. It is also a great road car and a perfect companion to my 911.
The mechanical design is superior to most other SUV's. If you choose not to use the full capability of your vehicle that's fine but to say it was never meant to be an utility car is maybe by the owners choice not the cars designer.

I believe the Cayenne is the only SUV on the market that you cannot add a roof carrier in the standard configuration. And it is also the only SUV that does not have a protective strip on upper surface of the rear bumper.

My neighbors have some Chevy SUV that has no rails (actually they just bought a new version of it too and also didn't get rails on it). Like the Cayenne there are no mounts so adding them is not something the end user can do. No idea if GM is equally stupid as Porsche about adding them after the fact.

There are also plenty of expensive and cheap SUVs that have completely painted and unprotected bumpers.

Just how many SUVs out there do you think can even compete in the Transsiberrian race? They used a special edition model, but it wasn't significant modifications.

There are plenty of anti-utility things Porsche has done, but many of them are the same things other SUV manufacturers are doing.

Calling the Cayenne not a real SUV is as ludicrous as calling the 911 not a real sports car because it's motor is at the wrong end or the 996+ aren't 911s because they are water cooled.

Many people, including myself, purchase the Cayenne not for its practicality, for that, there are better choices. My previous SUV, a 2003 Acura MDX, is about the same size as the Cayenne, the MDX is more roomy inside, the door storage compartments are bigger, the glove box is bigger, the storage under the center armrest is much bigger, the trunk is deeper also. But don't get me wrong, I love my Cayenne S and will buy it all over again.

Your reasons for buying it don't change what it is. A shocking number of people buy F-150s as their single person office commuter vehicle and Ford has made changes to cater to that, but it doesn't make it not be a truck any more.

Yes there are better options for every single thing the Cayenne can do, but there is arguably no vehicle that can do all it can do as well. Just because you didn't buy yours to haul 7500 pounds, cross the desert, or drive to the arctic circle doesn't negate that fact that it can do all of these things with minimal alterations.

impossible to add, unless you drill holes, but that will be a hard task.
you can add the stick-on ones but they are for show only.

The Cayennes pretty good at being utility.. however I do wish I got roof rails.. Thousands of KM with a heavy canoe on the roof has lead to some slight denting.. even with Yakima Whispbars on..

Got a yakima fit kit (or part) #?

I get different answers on a fit kit every time I try to see which one works.

Unfortunately I don't have the receipt around, but I got it through RackAttack.com and they were a great help.. (use code RACK10 to get 10% off) and I'm not associated with them..

Do you have a pano roof on your Cayenne? I wondering how much weight load it can carry in a box with no rails and a pano roof. Hard to find this answer so far online. Love the boat on the roof. Nice one.
