Thanks for the info. Like some have asked, could you please post some pictures of the installation. I would love to do this as well.

Slightly off topic, but here are some pics of the solution I'm working on for the remote display.

I noticed that the RD was a nearly perfect width/height/depth match for the upper area of the non-smokers pocket in front of the shifter. A bit of cutting and grinding later and I think I have a winner in progress.

It's kind of hard to tell in the relevant pictures, but basically a hole about the size of the display was cut on on the front and rear and the display was slid through. I'm not sure it was needed, but it's tacked in place with a bit of glue.

Now I need to pull the center console apart to run the cable.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I could not figure out which wire was the power as I found a couple wires with blue stripes but none were solid blue.

I did this a while back. I think as long as the blue is with the brown wire, then its the right blue. Just take a voltmeter and test it when you turn car on and then off.

Great to know - thanks for posting. I have the direct wire cord for my Escort but haven't attempted install yet.

I'm thrilled to know that i should be able to tap into the rearview mirror.

I hope I am not hijacking this thread too much. Anyone with adaptive cruise control has issues with their radar detector? I think you, Gnat, have adaptive cruise control, right?

Nope, I didn't want that kind of stuff

I haven't heard complaints about that feature causing issues if it's your car (some makes will trigger it if you get near another car with it on though), but I have heard people with the heated windshield and/or LCA complain about it. Do you have either of those?

Not heated windshield but LCA (it is part of the package). I guess I'll keep obeying the law, then.

You might try disabling LCA for a bit (is there a button or do you have to pull the fuse?) and see if that clears up your issues.

You might also reach out to Mike Valentine and see if he has any suggestions. I've found Mike to be an extremely personable and helpful guy.

You should also check your Serial Number and see if there have been upgrades since your's was built. An upgrade might have a fix already.

Ummm... Yeah.... I always follow the posted speed limit... Yeah. That's it!
