Wheel arch extensions?

What is the purpose of the wheel arch extensions? Anyone get them and wish they hadn't? Anyone not get them and wish they had?

We have ordered our 2013 CD without extensions and are having second thoughts... We still have about 2 weeks to add them to our order.

Thanks!

Only needed with 20 or 21 inch wheels. They look great. I painted mine to match the car, although you can leave them black.

Pretty tough to install correctly. Takes ~8 hours of labor.

Go to your Porsche dealer and see them on the GTS and most Turbo's.

Ok - thanks. We ordered the car with 19s no arch extensions. The Cayenne in the showroom didn't have them - also with 19s.

Can't see the details in a photo. Gotta see it in person. They stick out 3/4" further than the stock arches.

Are wheel arch extensions required for 20" wheels also or only for 21" & above? I was under the impression that up to 20" wheels you don't need extensions.

if your 20" wheels are 9.5" wide, you need them; if 9", then not.

I know how the wheel arch extensions look but i was curious if you also painted the under-body trim to match. It would be great if you have a picture. I have a black/black Cayenne on order.

When you configure your car, if the tires/wheels you pick require them, then obviously you get them. If not, it's your choice but seems unnecessary. They now allow them to be painted same as car which is what I did and am happy with them.

This is exactly what we decided upon. We ordered the CD with 19s no arch extensions ... the more we looked at them the more we disliked them. However the pics on the larger tires really look good.

So what is the PURPOSE of the wheel arches? Is it because with bigger & wider wheels tire setup, the wider tires kick up road junk and will hit the car if the wider arch is not there? I know the wheel arches extends out a little, but is it also taller?

Before we ordered our CD we had a 2013 CD for an 'overnight test-drive'. The Cayenne had 18s and arch extensions. They seemed to look out of place on that vehicle.

The showroom Cayenne had 19s and no arch extensions and the body looked very streamlined - no arches sticking out.

I can't imagine there is much protection afforded by the wheel arch extensions with 18s or 19s -- with 20s/21s I suppose there would be some protection...

We have decided on no arches and the 19s.

There would be no point to get wheel arch extensions with 18, 19, 20" OEM wheels unless you get appropriately sized wheel spacers.
