Towing with a diesel

I haven't done any towing yet, but I'm interested to hear from those that have. I know the diesel should be better than the V6 and even the 8, but I'd like to hear about real world experience.

That its supposed to do 7500lbs opens up all kinds of possibilities (like a closed trailer to haul the 996 to all those places we wanted to take it but couldn't because you can't fit 3 50lb dogs in it for a long road trip).

So how does it handle heavy loads? How does it do with its gas mileage? Any strange oddities about the Cayenne in general or the engine?

Handles fine, but fuel consumption increases dramatically. I occasionally tow a tractor about 30 miles for warranty service. Combined load (tractor +trailer) definitely pushes the 7700# limit, but - if it wasn't for the mirrors - I wouldn't know it was back there. One other tll is that the LCA doesn't work. Towing mpg ~21. Same road w/o trailer; 35 mpg.

Thanks Greg. Hope your recovery is going well.

How's the turner box doing and have you towed anything with it installed yet?

Haven't actually driven since 01 Jan, and probably won't until the 1st week of Feb. Hence, no experience yet as to how the tuning box performs during towing.

No. I assume that is required? Might not be towing a 944!?

You need brakes on any trailer weighing above a combined 1650 pounds. Combined means trailer weight plus load weight. Or are you thinking of renting one of those two wheeled towing contraptions?
