Can tires be repaired?
Can tires be repaired?
I noticed a screw embedded in the passenger front tire of our 1 week old diesel Cayenne. The tire is not losing air. Tires are 19 Pirelli Scorpions .. Owners manual says 'N' tires cannot be repaired. Comments??
I haven't heard that before and the only time I've had shops refuse to repair a tire (for a tread puncture) is when there were multiple punctures too close together.
I wouldn't recommend tracking (DE or AutoX) with a patched tire, but for normal driving it should be fine I would think. Take my advise at your own risk though
One thing to consider is that if we are talking about low profile tires you may be able to feel the patch.
If you replace the tire per the manual, remember that this is an AWD vehicle which means you can't just change one tire. At a minimum you need to replace both on the same axle, but if there is a significant tread difference between axels then you need to do all 4. Having mismatched tires is a good way to burn out your xfer case.

As long as the puncture is in the main tread area (not on the sidewall or near the shoulder), you should have no problem plugging it. Take it to Discount Tire, etc, for a free evaluation and plug.
For the 3rd tire that got a screw, I think the repair shop cut the rim of the tire by not properly dismounting it, and between that and the screw puncture, I decided to buy a new tire. Irony all punctures were different tires.
PS: When I trailer, and travel long distances, I always carry a full sized spare.

Thanks for the advice and replies. Tire is in the shop as we speak and being repaired properly. Our Porsche dealer called me and said that Porsche is not legally able to repair tires and all tires should be replaced .. but .. off the record .. tires can be repaired with no issues..
I've never had as many flats as I did with my Cayenne. My tires must be nail magnets! But every time I just bring it to BigO tires, and they patched it up no problem.
Only time when the shop wouldn't patch my tire was when I ran over some road debris and it made a cut too close to the side wall. Luckily that wasn't the cayenne and the replacement tire was cheap.

The only wheel/tire warranty I ever purchased was for the Cayenne.p, since its my DD other than my RR Station car. The roads up here in NY are elsucko even without nails and screws adoring the roads. You guys in no frost heave areas are truly blessed
I noticed that there is a video "tire resealing" that explains how to use the little resealing liquid container that "should" be in the spare tire compartment of your Cayenne. I noticed that there was one in the Panamera loaner that I had but when I got my Cayenne back, I saw the place for it above the little air compressor with a velcro holder strap but it was not there. I don't believe it came with my car. I'd be curious to know if others have that little kit.

An earlier thread dealt with this
Sealer only comes with hybrid or diesel...I forget which.
In any event no sealer provided with collapsible spare.
I went ahead and got a bottle from Suncoast and put it in the slot

Ah. Thanks. Crazy between the kit and the bag it's $90. The Panamera loaner was a hybrid and there was one inside so it's likely those. Here's a picture of where the sealant kit fits for those who may be wondering.

If the screw is in the right place and goes straight in, it can probably be repaired. It should be repaired from the inside (not just an outside plug). Some of the better repair shops do both (inside patch and outside plug). Also, keep in mind that the repair may have a lower speed rating than the tire (which is why Porsche doesn't allow repairs). For example, instead of a top speed of 175 mph, you might be down to something like 150 mph
.
.Up in here in Western Canada 175 - 150 km/h is standard. Hell, we drive '40' in school zones!
