Bose or No-Bose?
Lol...couldn't be more misspent than mine....so no that's not what's causing it..hehe...
I think if op has the option of one with Bose for the extra $ it would prove worthwhile in the long run. On the other hand if he doesn't then I'm sure he will live without it. Fwiw I also found when listening to just the radio the base system was really weak against the Bose. Maybe it's just the size of interior space that makes it that you need a sub and better speakers..

I have Bose in my Panamera and PCM(non-Bose) in my Cayenne, and both radios are bad, FM is barely acceptable and AM is just horrible, the tinny and weak AM sound makes it feel like I am listening to a tiny pocket radio, by turning up the volume does not help.
Do you have any idea if "loudness" was turned on or not? I was highly disappointed in the base+nav system as I drove it off the lot and intended to go straight to my audio guy to start discussing options. A few miles later I found and disabled that "feature" and it made a world of difference and I'm happy enough to live with it as is.
That "loudness" option just ruins it and I have no idea why they built it the way the did. It made it sound like the speakers were being overdriven while being under water. Just horrible.

After reading your post, I put the fade on mine a few points back.. makes a world of difference!
As was touched on in other posts, timing adjustments make a massive difference in perceived quality of sound as it focuses the sound at a given point (usually the driver) so sound from all speakers reaches the point at the same time. Most vehicles are setup so that the majority of the audio power is focused on the speakers in the front half of the car. On systems that don't have timing control you can cheat by using the balance and fader to simulate the functionality to some degree. It will never be as good as true timing adjustments, but it can bring a garbage system up to acceptable levels.
Happy to help.

I have a "linear" setting which is "recommended for enthusiast listening" or some such nonsense description and a surround setting.
Is this a 2014 only thing?
Either way, I am having a hard time getting good sound out of this radio. I used to get into my BMW out of the Acura and think "man, the BMW sounds so much better". Now I drive the Acura every day and get into the Porsche and think "man, the Porsche sounds like crap".
HELP!
Have you gone back to your dealer and played with stock models to see how they sound? It could be that maybe there is something wrong with your system (I don't think the value is there for the higher systems, but they shouldn't make you pine for your Acura...). If you do that, make sure that you use the same source (e.g. CD, iPod, etc..) so that you are comparing apples to apples.
So I have no loudness switch.

The surround setting on the BOSE changes things alot but it is difficult to go back and forth to compare becuase the program gets much louder when you turn it on. So I am often turning it on and off AND adjusting the volume quickly to try and compare the two. I go back and forth not sure which I like better. They both sound good to me.
I believe that 2 speakers come on during SURROUND all the way in the rear that are not on when it is off. The only improvement I would enjoy is a deeper sounding sub woofer.
I looked at a whole series of old postings where several people removed the BOSE amp and sub and substituted their own amp and cabinet. I think they all were on older Cayenne models but the results were good. Someday- maybe.
