Probably going back to X5M
Probably going back to X5M
I leased a leftover 2013 CTT with a MSRP of 120K for 100K in October. I rolled 10K in neg equity from a CTT that was damaged in a rear end collision from when my wife was driving the car. I was driving a Panny GTS and gave that to my wife cause I really prefer a SUV for everyday. I rolled the $$ cause the biz pays the lease.
The lease payment on the CTT is $1980 and quite frankly while I think the CTT is an amazing car with an interior second to none, I have had quality issues since day one (rattles, pano roof adjustment, rear tailgate doesn't always close) which I have worked out for the most part, but I am left wanting more at times. The CTT is isolated and numb IMO. My previous SUV right before the Panny which I drove for 4 months was a 2010 X5M which was my favorite car in a long time and being a car junky who normally changes car quite frequently, its says a lot that I had the X5M for 2 years. Just something about the M that pushed my buttons. The sound, weight of the steering wheel, etc. Been missing that car since I dropped it off.
I have an opportunity to get a very nicely optioned X5M and trade the CTT in. If you can believe taking out the 10K in negative equity, I can get out of the CTT for what I leased it for minus the 5 payments I made.
I would save $1K per month and be back in the M. The new X body just came out, which I am on the fence about, but will drive the M until my 991 lease is up July 2015 and revisit the stable.......
Pretty sure its a done deal when factoring in the 1K per month savings.....
Open to thoughts. Thx.

You are in an enviable place of preferring a less expensive car.
I had an X5M for 2 years and now have been driving my CTT for two also.
There is just nothing I preferred about the BMW (well….I did like the royal Blue paint), so it's hard for me to completely fathom your position, but it sounds like a BMW is in your very near future!

X5M is certainly more aggressive. Cayenne is less aggressive with smoother lines. But you are right, can't argue with either.
I will say that the CTT feels lighter on it's feet for sure.

I say make the change and get into something that stirs your soul.
If the X5M marriage is short lived then off to another hunt. I think that's what makes the car hobby exciting....

Can't argue with an X5M. I might be in the minority, but if it is still the E70 styling, it is a beautiful car. One of the reasons I didn't go back to an X5, still have my 2007 X5, is the new styling didn't really do it for me. Who knows, maybe they will surprise me next year when the X5M (F15) comes out.

Need to decide today. Have a very nice deal negotiated.
[QUOTE=Michael_s;4058157]I happen to agree. I think the E70 body is a great design. The new body is meh for me at the moment. Like you say, maybe the X5M F15 will surprise me but for now I love the E70 X5M. Wife doesn't like the idea of getting an "old" body design and recommended the X6M but not sure I love the shape.... but I really don't see the "value" at 2K per month for the CTT.
Purchasing a car at these levels is more of an emotional rather than a practical or value based decision. It's all about what you want from a car and what are you willing to pay for it. Porsche's branding and marketing strategy has done a phenomenal job. How else would people pay 20k in options and be OK with it?
For me, X5M was very nice and could have lived with it. Wife liked the cayenne better for her reasons.

It wasn't branding or marketing that got me to spend over 40k in options.
I required an SUV, wanted the acceleration of a Turbo, and wanted better handling than the X5M.
If Audi, or Infiniti or Jaguar had made one I would have been all over it. There were simply no alternatives.

I'm not sure if I agree with this. My X5 4.8 (can't say for the X5M since I never drove one) just drives differently than my CTTS. It may be because I don't have optional Active Steering and Adaptive Drive, I found I had to "work" slightly harder with the wheel at low speeds. The CTTS just seems effortless, which is just different. Some will say the "effortless" to mean nimble and quick while some will say it lacks feedback from the road. In my opinion, both are really great SUV's.
Prior to picking up my CTTS, I did look hard at both X5/X6 lines. I really tried to like the X6, but in the end I just couldn't come to grips with what it was trying to be.
Ultimately I opted for a '14 CTTS after having owned 3 BMW's previously, this was more for wanting to own my first Porsche than not wanting another BMW. But if I had gone with the X5M, I don't think I would have regretted it either.

My 13 CTT has PDCC which is a significant improvement over my 12 non-PDCC CTT in my opinion.
I don't necessarily agree that CTT handles better than the M. They are difference rides. The run flat tires really make the M ride harsh. I good set on non run flats will really help.
Looks like done deal. If all goes well, new M (to me) tomorrow.
